The Moon was shining brightly in the night sky surrounded by thousands of glittering jewels. The whole palace was bathing in the moonlight. The gentle breeze danced with flower petals making it look like a colourful snowstorm. Cicadas could be heard in the distance.
The silence was interrupted by a young-sounding male voice. "Royal brother Wooyoung pays his respects to the emperor." For a few seconds, there was no reply. "Your royal highness?"
The man who was until now sitting peacefully on the edge of the terrace that provided a mesmerising view of the night garden which was sinking in the moonlight remained silent. He didn't have to turn his head around to know exactly who had interrupted him from moon bathing.
"Yes, royal brother?" A little bit of irritation could be heard in his voice.
"My apologies, your royal highness. Pardon my archness but shouldn't you be already sleeping? At least come inside, your royal highness, the weather is still cold at night." The sitting person finally turned his head just to lock his eyes with the youngster and give him a scolding look.
"We are quite daring to interrupt the emperor from enjoying this magical night, aren't we?" After that, both men smiled and started laughing. "It's been a while since I've seen my beloved younger brother." Wooyoung cheeks flushed a little.
"It has indeed been quite a while Sannie. I'm so glad that I'm finally home."

Even if they weren't family by blood they shared a deep brotherly bound similar to which their mothers shared in their youth. Wooyoung's mother was empress dowager's childhood friend.
Woo's mother has never been a part of the late emperor's harem. Despite that, she was allowed to stay in the royal palace thanks to the deep emotions which the emperor had for the young empress. It took San's mother quite some time to persuade the late emperor into allowing her friend to stay in the royal grounds.
Both women adored each other so much that they made a promise. If something was going to happen to one of them, the other lady swears to accept and take the other's one children as her own.
Young empress' friend was as beautiful and fragile as some kind of exotic flower, on top of that she was clever and talented. One night during feast she was asked to dance for the royal family. Just as she started dancing one of the most trusted emperor's generals was enchanted by her delicate body and her elegant moves. They both fell in love at first sight. It didn't take a long time and the emperor had blessed marriage between his trusted general and empress' childhood friend.
After young empress gave birth to a boy, the whole empire was celebrating. Both royal parents were more than happy that they had a male heir. A few months after San's birth Wooyoung was born to the general and his wife. Unfortunately by the cruel hand of destiny, the young wife died while giving birth to her firstborn child. She always dreamed about a big and loving family, at least two children, a boy and a girl. The general was devastated, he couldn't believe that his beloved wife and mother of his child was gone.
