Seungmin glanced around him wearily. He was in a bedroom, his bedroom, and he was lying on the bed. The familiar clock set up on his nightstand displayed the time 7:30p.m.

If everything was familiar here, so why didn't Seungmin feel...right? He felt like he shouldn't be here, like his existence had lost its meaning.

The door opened slowly, and the girl walked in. Seungmin didn't know why, but some part of him was surprised to see her here, though he obviously knew that she's here to study with him, and she just came back from the showers.

The girl sat down on the bed, and Seungmin immediately recognized her sweet, vanila scent. Her long brown hair was soft and smooth, tumbling over her shoulders.

She shuffled closer to Seungmin, and she took his hand, squeezing it gently.

She asked softly, 'Where do we start?'

Distracted by just how beautiful she was, Seungmin didn't answer.

The girl glanced at him, 'Seungmin...?'

He broke from his trance and smiled sheepishly. 'Sorry, you're just too pretty.' His fingers brushed her jaw lightly and tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear.

Blushing under his touch, she hit him playfully, mumbling, 'Not now Seungmin. Finals' in two weeks - we need to study.'

Fighting an emerging smile, Seungmin eventually gave up. Noticing his wide smile, the girl pouted. 'Don't laugh at me!'

He shook his head, chuckling. 'No no, I would never do that, right?'

She furrowed her brows and reached over for his bag without any words. She pulled out the chemistry book and stared at Seungmin pointedly.

'Come on. You didn't come over to my house just to study, didn't you?'

She simply continued to stare at him.

He finally relented, chuckling, then feigning disappointment. 'Fine, fine okay. But promise me after this we'll cuddle?'

Her eyes brightened and a small smile lifted her lips. 'Definitely.'

Some promises are destined to be broken.

'How about Chapter 1 first?' Seungmin suggested.

The girl shrugged, and Seungmin flipped to the first page. After a few minutes, Seungmin asked, 'You wanna test each other after every two pages we study?'

When she didn't answer, Seungmin turned to look at her, just to find her eyes halfclosed. He shook her gently, growing concerned when she hardly reacted.

'Hey, what's wrong? Are you okay?' Seungmin asked worriedly.

Her eyes flickered open, and she mumbled softly, 'Nothing's wrong...I'm fine...'

He frowned, 'Are you sick?' Seungmin pressed a hand against her forehead, and gasped.

He stared at the girl, alarmed. 'We're going to the hospital. Now.'

The girl shrunk away. 'No, it's okay, I'm okay. We don't have to-'

'No, you know your health condition. You need help right now. The hospital is literally right next to my house, it's a minute walk away.'

With that, Seungmin pulled her out of the bed, and gave his jacket to the girl. Her hands were ice cold, and she was shivering.

They left the house, and they were walking down the pathway, with Seungmin supporting her. The hospital was right there. But halfway through, the girl stopped.

Seungmin turned to look at her, worry building up in him.

She murmured, 'I don't think I can make it Seungmin...I can't feel my hands, my body...'

He narrowed his eyes, gritting his teeth. 'No, you're gonna make it through this. You've got to stay strong...for me, for yourself.'

The girl shook her head and let go of him. But the moment she let go of Seungmin, she collapsed. Seungmin gasped and caught her before she could crash against the floor. He was kneeling, with the girl in his arms.

He breathed in deeply, forcing himself to stay calm, despite the fear that was choking him, suffocating him like waves submerging him beneath an ocean's dark waters. 'I'm gonna carry you okay? You're already too weak to even stand.'

But the girl shook her head again, 'It's no use, Seungmin.'

'What do you mean?'

She wrapped her arms around Seungmin's waist, burying her face in his chest. 'The doctor...he told me last week. That my immune system is so weak to the point that the next time I catch a cold, injure myself, or get a fever...I would only have a few moments left.'

Seungmin froze, the world around him coming to an abrupt stop. Everything around him disappeared from his view and he could only see was the girl he loved in his arms. 'How...how long?'

'A few...minutes...' even her voice was fading away.

'It's...okay...I knew...this...would come...some day...'

But Seungmin couldn't answer, or speak. All he could do was hold on to the girl, as he felt her warmth slowly slipping away.

Then her body stopped moving. No breathing. No pulse.

A broken promise.

You promised me. You promised us.

A tear slipped down Seungmin's cheek. He could only feel emptiness right now, as he kneeled on the pathway.

Alone.

The merciful white light filled his sight, and he woke again.
