The group got together and left the bar. "I'll stick with you guys till you leave the city" Lin had said. Stephen saw the Tower visible at this point and wondered how this city specifically withstood the test of time, despite being the closest to the Tower. Stephen looked back and could see the people in the bar waving at him and wishing him luck. He knew that there was legitimately no turning back, even if he wanted to. But he didn't want to go back. He didn't want to stay on this hate-consumed planet. This planet could've been beautiful, but the greedy creatures on it took advantage of its pureness and when they realized their mistakes, it was too late.
Walking past the empty streets of Last Light was depressing. There wasn't much talking, just walking and wandering. Sooner or later Rose said:
"Hey, I have to go do something real quick. If you find an exit lemme know, got it? Just so you know, there's been rumors of a cave leading to the Tower, and that's the only entrance we know of or maybe even have."
And just as Stephen was about to say "Ok", she left.
"I wonder what she would need to do. What do you think, Lin?"
"I know just as much as you do. Maybe she's researching the Tower, but that wouldn't make sense because we already know what the Tower does. It grants 3 wishes."
"Maybe it has some other purpose?"
Sally had joined in on the conversation and said:
"Perhaps there's some sort of aftermath after using it."
"Whatever, let's just look for a cave."
"How about we split up, Stephen? You and Linda can go one way and I can go the other way."
"That sounds like a good idea. Are you onboard, Lin?
"Sounds like a plan."
Stephen was anxiously searching around the outer city walls looking for a cave or a hole of some sort while Lin was thinking of where an opening might be.
"When we find an opening let's mark it on a map, ok?"
"That sounds like a good idea."
After a long period of searching, Lin came up with a theory:
"What if the cave wasn't anywhere on the outside, but instead, it was in the inside of a house or building? Maybe even in a sewer?
"I... never thought of that! Let's start looking in sewers!"
They went down the sewers and kept searching but to no avail. They tried to look under the water, but they couldn't go into the water, seeing as how they're cloaks and the water would just grow heavier and heavier until they would be stuck forever. They knocked on the cracks, but they were all solid. They looked through the bars, but no cave was found, so they crossed off the sewers. Now to look at above-ground buildings.
They started with apartment buildings because they figured it would be the easiest. They searched through quite literally everything, even cupboards, and closets, but nothing was there except the occasional old vase and rusty pipes. The apartments were scratched off. Now only the house.
The first house they went in was very run-down and looks like a house from one of those old western cowboy movies. Cracked floor panels, no pipes anywhere, and only one story. There wasn't even a basement there. It had all the essentials to live and that was it.
"We may have just gotten lucky on this house, Stephen."
"How?"
"Because this house hasn't been housekept very well, so we can assume nobody's ever used this house. This may seem like useless information but what I'm wondering is why nobody ever used this house? There must've been a reason that the house hasn't been used even once."
