After bringing back the real Bucky Barnes, memories and all, Ava found herself quite energised. Even though she'd had a small nap from using her powers, she realised that using them after so long brought back a familiar spark in her very being.
And when it returned... she wasn't sure she ever wanted it to go away.
But even with that, she was reminded of all she had suffered to gain these powers. After taking her in, Pietro had done his best to explain that the way she was treated in HYDRA — was far from okay.
It had taken her a while to understand, but she did now. She knew that she deserved better than what HYDRA had done — and she was getting that from her new family.
But she occasionally wondered who she was before HYDRA.
She couldn't imagine how Bucky felt.
"Who were they?" Steve demanded — no sympathy for his old best friend. It'd been a long time since the 1940's.
"Their most elite death squad." Bucky explained, eyebrows creased. "More kills than anyone in HYDRA history. And that was before the serum."
"They all turn out like you?" Sam asked sharply, still angry about being hit by the man — and his steering wheel from their previous fight.
"Worse." Bucky snapped at the Falcon. He was nothing compared to the others.
"The doctor. Can he control them?" Pietro questioned, accent strong with concern — Ava had been discovered in HYDRA, what if the doctor came for her?
"Enough." Bucky replied, his mind racing with his newly recalled memories. Ava watched him closely, unsure of what he was thinking.
"Said he wanted to see an empire fall." Steve commented, thinking back to the man who had brainwashed his friend.
"With these guys... he could do it. They speak 30 languages, can hide in plain sight, infiltrate, assassinate, destabilise." Bucky listed off. "They can take down a whole country in one night."
"You'd never see them coming." Ava spoke quietly, but her voice was amplified by the empty surroundings. Bucky nodded in agreement.
Pietro picked Ava up, letting her climb onto his back and grip the shirt on his shoulders."This would've been a lot easier a week ago." Sam said, and Pietro agreed.
"If we call Tony..." Steve was interrupted by Sam.
"No, he won't believe us."
"Even if he did—" Steve spoke, and Pietro finished for him.
"Who knows if the Accords would allow Stark to help." Pietro finished, eyebrows creased in concern as Ava shifted on his back.
"Tony would help— he would." Ava told them, but they disagreed. Steve shook his head.
"We're on our own." The former soldier claimed.
"Maybe not. I know a guy." Sam stated, jaw clenched
slightly. He looked annoyed to be admitting this — which slightly confused Ava.●
Secretary Ross was fuming as he faced Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff. His eyes were hard as he stared the two Avengers down. "I don't suppose you have any idea where they are?"
"We will." Tony replied. "GSG-9's got the borders covered. Recon's flying 24/7. They'll get a hit, we'll handle it."
"You don't get it, Stark. It's not yours to handle. It's clear you can't be objective. I'm putting Special Ops on this." Ross spoke, ignoring Tony's angered expression.
Natasha's relatively neutral expression changed slightly as she spoke, "What happens when the shooting starts? What— do you kill Steve Rogers?" She question him, knowing that the best way was for her and Tony to bring them in.
"If we're provoked." The Secretary immediately replied, "Barnes would've been eliminated in Romania if it wasn't for Rogers. There are people dead who would be alive now. Feel free to check my math." He said.
"All due respect, you're not going to solve this with boys in bullets, Ross. You gotta let us bring them in." Tony fought back, knowing he was right — the Secretary disagreed.
"How would that end any differently to last time?" He asked, though Tony already had an answer.
"Because this time, I won't be wearing loafers and a silk shirt. 72 hours, guaranteed." Tony promised, but Ross' glare hardened.
"36 hours. Barnes, Rogers, Wilson." He listed off, before leaving as Tony replied.
"Thank you, sir." The genius said, before he rubbed a hand against his chest, slumping down in his seat. "My left arm is numb. Is that normal?" He asked, Natasha patting his shoulder.
"You alright?" The redhead asked, concerned for her friend — he had a black eye and a cut on his brow.
"Always." He replied, ignoring the stinging pain on his face. "36 hours, jeez."
"We're seriously understaffed." Natasha commented, thinking of how their team was split apart.
"Oh, yeah. It'd be great if we had a Hulk right about now. Any shot?" Tony questioned, not even aware that Bruce Banner wasn't even on Earth.
"No," Natasha quickly replied, looking at him doubtfully. "You really think he'd be on our side?"
"No." Tony sighed.
"I have an idea." Natasha said.
"Me too, where's yours?" Tony instantly replied, thinking back to the Spider Guy.
"Downstairs. Where's yours?" A faint smile appeared on Tony's face. He was going to Queens.
