So the two finally left, retrieving their bikes from bens front lawn and heading off towards Eddies house. Although Caroline suspected Richie had waited those extra couple minutes so he could ride home alone with her, she didn't really mind spending some alone time with the boy.
They rode in a sort of comfortable yet uncomfortable silence which Caroline was itching to break, so she did.
"So, Richie Tozier, tell me about yourself" Caroline said with a chuckle as she sped up her pedalling to match Richie's pace.
"What do you wanna know sweet cheeks?" Richie replied, sending yet another wink Caroline's way.
"Uh, I dunno! I just feel like even though we've hung out so much lately we like, basically know nothing about each other!"
"Damn! You're right care-bear! We sure don't know a whole lot about each other now do we?" Richie exclaimed in a poorly-done southern drawl, earning a small snicker from Caroline "If we're to be wed, we must spill all our deepest secrets! Now go ahead darlin'! Ladies first! Tell me bout yourself!"
"Right then," Caroline began, calming her laughter "I am Caroline Matthews! I'm 12 but I turn 13 on the 5th of July. I moved here from Ohio to live with my aunt Jenny just before fourth grade. And uh-I like music and I like reading and that's kinda everything."
Richie nodded slowly. He was dying to ask her why she moved away from her parents to live in Derry of all places, but he felt as if that could be a slightly touchy subject.
"And another thing; we are not getting married dummy, we're 13!" She interjected, laughing softly.
"So what I'm hearing is that you'd marry me if we weren't 13" Richie teased, smirking over at her.
"Stop that! That's not what I said! Now just-just tell me about yourself! You're turn!" Caroline shouted out, attempting to hide her blushing face the best she could.
"Well then, first of all; Happy early birthday my dearest care-bear! And secondly; I am Richard Tozier, gross I know. I have been 13 since the 17th of March, so mark that down in your calendar next year sweet cheeks" Richie told her, causing Caroline to blush with each nickname and giggle at each joke "I've lived in Derry since I was born. I also enjoy music and making you laugh doll face"
Caroline smiled at the boy, happy to be in the company of someone so witty and fun. She had only known this boy properly for all of three days, but she seriously felt like she had known him for a lifetime.
"So Richard" Carrie began jokingly, receiving a noise of disgust from Richie before he burst out laughing "I think Ill probably be sticking with Richie or maybe Rich"
Caroline realised by the knot that resided in her stomach that she simply adored Richie's laugh. The way his whole face lit up and his nose scrunched up and his thick glasses slid down his face. He looked adorable.
Not to say Caroline didn't find him adorable all the time. Because she kind of did. Which was weird for her. But maybe this is just how friendships feel! Yeah that's it!
"Earth to Carrie! Hellooooo!" Richie called out, still laughing at the girl who had seemed to completely check out of the situation "you gonna answer my question or what?"
