Growing up, I would have never thought living underground would be my future. I didn't even think it was possible. Yet again, I never even thought about it in the first place. Whoever would?
Well now, it's reality for me. It's reality for the whole human population and I'm pretty sure it will be this way until a; forever, or b; the human species ends.
Have you ever heard of the theory where there is a whole city under the airport in Denver, Colorado?
Well, here in-... I mean, under Canada, that's pretty much exactly it. You may be wondering, how did you get all seven billion-plus people to fit under one country? Honestly, I don't know. What I do know, is that, well, not everybody made it. The population has drastically decreased.
About four-ish years ago, global warming surprised all of us. Earth became too hot and too extreme of living conditions for our bodies to bear. Fires went out of control, devouring forests and jungles that supplied us with most of our oxygen. Canada was one of the very few places where fires didn't occur, due to the cold temperatures and snow. That didn't mean we could live in Canada, above ground though. Oh, no. The air pollution and smoke from the fires would damage everyone's lungs in no time.
So the government had this fantastic idea. 'Hey, guys! By the way, we've been working on an underground country under this country because we knew this was going to happen. So, go ahead! Go suffocate and let the claustrophobia begin!'
Okay, it obviously didn't work that way but come on, it about sums it up, right?
The scary thing is that nobody knows how the Earth above us is doing. Is it still on fire? Are there aliens up there? Did the oceans dry up? Did things go back to normal?
