Just as I suspected, smokey, burnt, and abandoned. As disgusting as it is, human corpses were scattered around here and there. Not a single living person was in sight.
"Well..." Wyatt looks around, wide-eyed.
"What do you mean "well"?! Can you believe this? After four years, we are above ground again! Even though dead bodies lay around us, this is exciting! Although, Earth really is not as pretty as it used to be a decade ago," I jumped up and down in front of him, squealing. He was taller than me, so I had to look up to him. Yet again, most seventeen-year-old boys are taller than the girls their same age.
"Ya know, Earth is just layers of dead bodies. Here, above ground, we have corpses everywhere, then a layer of soil, following that layer is buried bodies, then another layer of soil, after that is our underground home, filled with people," he says. I snicker in response.
He was a bit wrong actually. Not everyone on the surface was dead, because, at that moment, we heard a cough. Our eyes scanned around us and we walked around a bit, walking around the few dead bodies of people who died from such horrible lung damage.
Another cough, right behind me. I swing around. They were alive...
He slides his hand down his face, wiping it, before looking up at me, him laying on the ground. He looked like he saw a ghost.
"Oh, hell no," Wyatt walked up behind me, staring at the teenager that was our age. He was so surprised to see a survivor and so was I.
