Senior prom, the big dance that everyone gets excited for. The guys come up with cheesy promposals and the girls go all out with stunning dresses and gowns. But like every other dance of my high school career, I would not be asked, although I did have a date. Jonathan.
In February, 2019, a boy came in for an interview, a very cute boy. The kind that makes you all nervous and you start to question how you look while doing normal tasks you are used to doing everyday. All seemed to go well and we assumed he got the job. But a week went by, I heard nothing of him. A month went by, and no sign of this boy. Then came April, I walked into work and saw someone new. It was the boy, he told me his name was Jonathan and that he was Style's friend.
He was cute.
Upon seeing this boy for the second time, I had butterflies, he gave me a feeling that I had never really experienced with past crushes or boyfriends.
He was different.
After that shift he dm'ed me on instagram, and we talked continuously for days. Back and forth banter, joking around but also flirting. Work became even more enjoyable since I had something to look forward to.
Then I had an idea: it was very unlikely for me to get asked to prom by a guy at my school, so why not ask Jonathan?
I ended up doing precisely that. I surprised him at work with a decorated apron and he said yes.
That single "yes" relieved so much anxiety and the breath I didn't even know I was holding in.
Preparing for prom was so exciting since I actually had a date, I was through the roof. We wore matching royal blue, my dress and his tuxedo. It was perfect from dinner with my friends to the limo ride to the dance. It was everything I hoped my senior prom would be.
I just didn't expect what followed.
