The Flu

Chapter 2

Epy dropped his research laptop on his bed and sat back thinking. Nella! Nella! It had been a month and they had not talked. He had only listened to her therapeutic speeches online, the last one been a week ago. She wasn't receiving his calls or anything sending back even his gifts.

He was used to women going mute on him everytime they met his son but Nella didn't. She kept coming back and wasn't afraid to meet Tommy when scheduled. Actually, Nella was the first woman after Tommy's mom that he had introduced to him. A very big mistake!!

Tommy's mum Shelby just left and never came back after their divorce. She said Epy offered less time and made her pregnant at a time she didn't want. Actually made her wasn't the word, she called it forcing himself to her, a major reason why she actually got the divorce and left. She didn't file for their son's custody, she didn't want him, enough reason for him not to worry. Epy remembered she even mentioned in court that he had a disease that could be very contagious to people that this almost made him loose his medical license. Her lawyer must have tipped her to keep off Epy's career lane if she wanted her son to have a fair life. That had been so close.

For a month Epy had undergone so many tests to check his health and they found nothing like everyone else did when he had turned 14 years. This was the reason he had turned to medicine, to understand what he was suffering from. Most times it was ruled out as sypsis but nothing close to what he currently knew. He just couldn't understand how Nella got it and his 5 years ex wife didn't nor his son!

"Nana, has Tommy eaten?" he asked drinking a glass of milk.

"He has. Are you alright doctor? You haven't even taken Tommy to those dinner dates. He feels it." Nana said pushing a pie next to Epy's glass.

"I dont know Nana. Its Nella." He tells her and she looks up with those eyes of "Not again!".

"You broke up? That must be really tough you know. You even introduced Tommy to her. That was fast!!" she says adjusting on her seat the way she does everytime he is about to start gossiping with her.

" You say it as if its my fault. You are the one who caused this actually. She got my fever! "

Nana gasped!

" How? Shelby didn't nor Tommy. Then how did she? "

" I don't know. I am still trying to understand this. Or may be its just in another stage. Like may be its going to the next level... Its not a game. Like i just don't understand it. She hasn't gotten back to me since last month. She got really upset. I just threw the fever thing at her face. "

Epy chews on the pie waiting for Nana's answer. This woman knows his very best and worst of his moments. She raised him up when he was dropped at her door. She never meet his parents nor had any details of his home. All she did was name him Epy, after herself, her mum and dad : Eva, Paul and Yorker, EPY.

" Did she have the fever before?" she asked looking thoughtful.

"No she didn't. She actually had the speech thing with the Senator just two days later. Then her fever just dropped when i injected her with my meds. I just don't understand that. Enough about work. Hows you Nana, any new guy?"

In her late 50's she still looked youthful, something she had managed to keep up for a long while. She had only Epy in her world, Talked less of her family which with time he learnt to not bother.

" Aah! Epy am old! Plus no one wants an old slack like me. Imagine starting to date at my age?" the outlandish her is out again.

"Try it Nana, we aint gonna stick around each other forever. Plus you are spoiling Tommy way too much! Spread the love to someone else."

That didn't change her mind at all. She didn't want a heartbreak at her age. Said loosing things at her age wasn't the plan. Epy did push her to several dates and she always came back grumpy except this one time that she came back talking about the guy he had met who had style like a 22 year old but was in his 50s.

" I will when you find the right woman. You got to talk to Nella, is she seeing someone?"

"Yes, Charles. A guy they have been together for an year i think. I don't know, i didn't ask her how long they have been together. Plus Nana i just blew my chances with this HACK fever."

"HACK" was what he had named this fever. It just seemed to hack the immune and leave totally no traces of it behind. Something he never understood. While growing up he had thought may be something had been installed into his body that caused this fever or he was an alien. He went to an extent of having body scans for any metals in his body but nothing was found.

Nella was a mystery he was ready to solve and learn. With her besides him it could be easy but now that they were apart and he wasn't sure it was really the fever, he had to wait and see whether she got the same fever again. She never did.

Months passed, no calls from her. She seemed to be rising in her career. On her latest show she had introduced Charles in it and proudly claimed he was her partner in crime . Not that heartbreaking but something pinched his ass that night. He wanted to go after Charles but how! Then may be he could have Nella if he had the right plans but well, she seemed to have moved on. It wouldn't matter! Three months and no call, well, she was gone.....

... This part had alot of distractions from mama as i wrote..😂😂😂Hope its clue full...
