Enjoy this chappie😜😊The silence was cut short by the giggling of two young girls on their way to the farm. Their hands clutching hoes and baskets for carrying their harvest. Fìwàshadé halted mid-step, and turned to Àwèlé, " Àbèbí, have you remembered anything yet?" Àwèlé stopped too. " N-no, but i've been having these nightmares lately. Maybe they're from before " . It was true, she'd been having flashes of her life before Adéoba's attack. her father laughing as she struggled to hoist his hunting gun, her brothers carrying her on their backs when she grew tired after going to the farm, her mother saying "òrékeléwà l 'omo tèmi",as she plaited her hair into the well liked korobá hairstyle, Aríyíké and Omololá helping her ward off her bullies. And finally, Adéoba's face as he submerged her into the water. she'd been having been having dreams of the day Adéoba attacked her , her mind playing his words and actions over and over again. but the dreams didn't stop there, they continued with Adéoba moving on to her family, her brothers, her parents, all dead within seconds. The evil prince standing over their bodies with a maniacal grin on his face, coated in their blood.
Àwèlé jumped when fìwàshadé placed a hand on her shoulder, " àbèbí, what's wrong? you just zoned off on me. "
"Nothing, I was just thinking about how i would take care of a baby by myself"
Fìwàshadé scoffed "by yourself? young lady, you've got me to help you, between the both of us, a little boy will be no trouble."
Her companion gave an inelegant snort, " young lady? we're the same age" fìwàshadé waved a nonchalant hand " details, details"
" thank you fìwàshadé, That is very kind of you. wait, how do you know it's going to be a boy?"
" meh, it's a gut instinct. believe me, i know my stuff"
Àwèlé giggled, " i put my trust in you, o great one". they resumed walking while giggling at intervals but the giggling faded when they stumbled upon a carcass on the road. A poor antelope had been hit by an arrow, but had managed to escape the clutches of the hunters. Acquiescing to death some miles away. fìwàshadé grimaced when she saw the dead animal, but Àwèlé moved towards it, as if she was being controlled by invinsible strings. Unconciously, her hands stretched towards the antelope on the ground.
" don't touch it! it's been dead for who knows how long" fìwàshadé yelled. but Àwèlé was beyond the point of listening , she knelt next to the antelope, and rubbed a hand on it's bloody pelt.
" oh, you poor thing, who did this to you?"
she gasped in shock when the antelope lurched to unsteady feet and stood in front of her. it nuzzled her neck, turned and galloped into the forest beside the path. Àwèlé turned to Fìwàshadé who was frozen in shock.
"I-I what was that? how did you do that? did you use the light?"
Àwèlé's brows were furrowed in confusion, " what are you talking about? what light?"
fiwashade's hands were shaking as she pointed at Àwèlé's hands.
" the one from your hands, it came out of your hands when you touched the antelope and then it woke up ! from the dead!"
" i-i i don't know what happened"
"maybe we should tell Òsunyémisí about this, i think he'll know what's going on"
but Àwèlé already knew what was happening, was this the power Oníbodè spoke of?
"Alright", she nodded and stood to her feet, " let's go"... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...
" And then he woke up! and he wasn't even limping or anything, he was as good as new!" Òsunyémisí nodded and turned to Àwèlé who he'd noticed had been silent through out Fiwashade's narration.
"Àbèbí you've been quiet all this while, do you have an idea about what's going on? or how they came about?"
she nodded "a..a .man gave them to me. His name is Oníbodè, he said it was from the gods"
"how did you meet this man with an unusual name?"
" he came to me on the day i found out that i was with child " She wrung her fingers together, the lies were piling up, but she couldn't help it, she had to lie. Or else, Adéoba would find her easily and finish what he'd started.
"well, who are we to defy the gods. Àbèbí , this is a good gift, just like your baby."
"our baby" fìwàshadé put in
Àwèlé smiled at her new found family. maybe having powers and a baby weren't so bad if they were here to help her.
As if she'd read her mind, fìwàshadé winked as if to say, you can trust me.
Àwèlé winked back.
i really do.Ok, who else didn't see this power coming😏
I did good right?😜
