And Share this story. (We've almost reached 1K guys. thanks, )If Àwèlé wasn't so shocked, she would have laughed at the look on Ariyike's face. The poor girl wasn't sure if she was supposed to laugh, or scream, or cry. So she stood still with her mouth open. Àdìo giggled and tugged on his mother's ìró.
"maami, tell her to close her mouth, or she'll catch flies"
The boy's words struck Ariyike, "maami?" she questioned,"is-- is he your son?"
Àwèlé cleared her throat again. "let- let's go inside". She opened up the shop, well aware of her friend's eyes on her the whole time. She did all this slowly, trying to buy herself some time to think of what she would say. Finally, she was done, there was nothing else to stall with. While she'd been busy with the store, Àdìo, who was a very friendly little boy, had kept his mother's friend busy with questions about his mother and her village, before going into the inner room, as if sensing that his mother had some things to discuss with her friend . Ariyike had answered as much questions as she could, but she stood, arms akimbo when she noticed that her friend was done. The shock had worn off and was replaced with a mixture of curiosity and anger.
She glared at her friend, like a mother about to scold her child, "explain" . Àwèlé smiled, even after many years, Ariyike still acted like a mother to her friends.
"How did you find me?"
Ariyike shrugged, "i didn't, My father has been ailing for some time, and i heard about a well known healer in Ìlúogbón. lo and behold, it was my best friend who had been missing for years" Àwèlé smiled again, Ariyike, ever the impatient one.
"sit down first, then i will tell you"
And she did , she told Ariyike everything. Her Best friend laughed when she heard Adele's response to Adéoba's advances, she gasped, tears filling her eyes as Àwèlé described her last day in her hometown, oyogun and she raised a dissapproving brow when Àwèlé told her about the lies she'd told to her helpers.Ariyike disliked lying and tried to avoid it. But she understood why Àwèlé had to lie, No one could boast of being truthful all the time. She was awed by Àwèlé's recounting of "the in-between" and Oníbodè, she gasped again when Àwèlé told her about her power and She sniffled when Àwèlé described Àdìo's birth.
Àwèlé expected many reactions from Ariyike after hearing her story, but what she did not expect was for Ariyike to burst into tears, punctuated by huge, wracking sobs and a runny nose. Between her sobs, all Àwèlé could hear was
"you're so strong! Adéoba is a madman" and "i missed you so much".
Àwèlé moved over to her friend and wrapped a comforting arm around her.
"kìlòdè tì o fìn sunkùn . Èmi gan ò sunkùn. oya , yé ké"She decided to make her friend laugh, and added"Ariyike mi owón , ' yike ade. Stop crying, you look like a bush rat like that"
Ariyike snickered and nudged her friend, "gbénu s'ohun, adìye. I always look beautiful, crying or not!" But she was glad that Àwèlé had succeeded in cheering her up. She began to update Àwèlé about her family . the women her brothers had married and how many children they had, Girls their age who had fallen into the traps of men and had become Adélebo in their father's house and all the fights that had broken out between orogún,wives in a polygamous home . Aríyíké became serious and turned to Àwèlé, "Àwèlé, you need to tell your helpers the truth, i can see that it hurts you to lie to them" . Àwèlé sighed, she agreed with Ariyike,She knew that Òsunyémisí was suspicious of the vague story she'd told him. "Alright, i will." she perked up again as a thought occured to her"what of Omololá? how is she?"
The smile on Aríyíké's face waned as she heard Àwèlé's questions. How was she to tell Àwèlé that her childhood friend who was like a sister to her had become a cruel woman who only cared for herself, and was married to the psychopath who tried to murder her. She knew how hurt Àwèlé would be , but she couldn't keep the truth from her. She sighed and began.
"Àwèlé, Things have changed a lot in the village. Omololá married Adéoba".
"And that is not all, "She continued as Àwèlé began to speak"She knew what Adéoba did to me and she told me that she killed Àdìo. When I threatened to expose Àdìo, she promised to kill me, Àwèlé, you should have seen her, she was acting like a lunatic." When she was saying this, Àwèlé's brows were furrowed,
"But Adéoba killed Adio. Why would she lie to you?" And then Aríyíké gasped,"you don't think she knows about what he did to you and Àdìo?"
Àwèlé nodded, a grim look on her face, "She must be aware, she married him even after he hurt you, didn't she?"
Even though she was really hurt by Omololá's betrayal, She wasn't really surprised. Omololá never liked to be relegated to second place after all. Too bad she chose the wrong team. Àwèlé was hellbent on ruining Adéoba , and she would destroy anything that stood in her way. Even if it was a friend she had considered family.
Her thoughts were cut short when Àdìo yelled from the inner room.
"Maami! I am hungry again!" To which Aríyíké and Àwèlé giggled. The boy was exactly like his grandfather and uncles............................................................................
At home, Àwèlé decided to do as Aríyíké had advised, she called both Fìwàshadé and Òsunyémisí and told them the truth. Fìwàshadé sniffed with indignation. "I'll still call you Àbèbí if i want to. And Àdìo is still my godson"
Àwèlé giggled, glad that Fìwàshadé did not seem angry with her. "do not worry, omo re na ni Àdìo"
Òsunyémisí finally spoke. "i knew you remembered more than you told us. Thank you for trusting us enough to tell us." He tilted his head as something occured to him "So, what do you intend to do now?"
When Àwèlé told him of her plans to hurt Adéoba as he had hurt her, Òsunyémisí frowned as she knew he would. He disliked violence and any thing that wasn't peaceful, just like any other Òsun worshipper. But Fìwàshadé supported her wholeheartedly, saying
"If that lunatic is not stopped soon, he will tear apart the seams of peace between our villages. Have you not heard of his greed and his evil deeds?". But Òsunyémisí still insisted, "You can get him off the throne without having any thoughts of revenge, you'd be saving your people. But if you do what you have set your mind upon, You are no different from him"
But he knew it was easier said than done, For, to him, Àwèlé was a young girl, still controlled by a young heart. She was as stubborn as a mule, as hard headed as an ox.
But there was something only the gods could see. The young woman was a girl no more , she had been hardened by her past, and she wasn't as foolhardy and naive as she was. Even if Adéoba knew the kind of cold hearted woman who was after him, nothing could save him, not even a sacrifice to the gods. For when a woman begins to plot, even esu, the devil himself, sits to learn.Chapter Twenty is over guys, man, Awele is really hellbenton exacting revenge, who do you support, Fiwashade or Osunyemisi?
And who else is happy that Awele finally told them the truth?
