A hand around the skin over her neck, trying to hide her mark from the world. She always hated that stupid mark that's been on her face since she was born. She knew she shouldn't be that mad about it, mostly because everyone that she knew had a somewhat similar marking.
Although everyone's mark was somewhere on their body, her's was in a place where anyone could see it. Her mark was right under her ear, where the skin meets her shoulder. It was white, unlike so many other's marks, which were the color of their lover's souls. Usually being bright colors, like pink or yellow. But her's was the color that matched her skin, and it made her look blotchy. Some kids would even make fun of her, leading her to put makeup or wrap it in a scarf to cover everything up.
These marks showed where your soulmate would first touch you. Katelyn's was questionable, but she's seen weirder locations for these marks. She never had put too much thought into her mark except for when she came to this new high school. The high school's name was Phoenix Drop High. Now, this school was very strict with dress codes; it was almost like the school board was grasping at straws for a way to keep everything in order.
This dress code didn't allow any excess clothing—aside from coats and jackets. That led to her not being able to wear anything to cover up her marking. The marking was in the shape of a man's hand; before this, she always thought that she might've had a girl as her soulmate, but taking a closer look, she knew it was a man's hand.
As she was walking through the halls of this high school, she was clutching onto her marking with all her might, making sure no one would see the white color. She wondered what her mark would look like, maybe yellow or blue.
Her thoughts were rushed out of her brain by her accidentally running into a boy in front of her. He seemed a little startled, but he wasn't hurt. The boy only tripped. He fell on the floor, and before she could do anything useful, her hand reached out. It embarrassingly touched his butt. But she had to admit that it had a nice curvature.
Now, something she was never expecting happened: his butt lit up. When she reached out to touch his butt, it gleamed a small light, so small that it would've been easy for anyone to miss it. However, she caught a good glimpse of it. It was bright blue, almost like her hair.
She decided to help the boy up instead of staring at his butt. She pulled him up with a strong pull on the back of his shirt, and once she saw his face, she realized how familiar he looked. He was one of Aphmau's friends—one of her many friends.
"Are you okay?" He rubbed his head from the impact but he seemed fine.
"Yeah, but are you okay?" This state threw her off guard. " 'Cause I think you just fell from heaven." His head must've been a little worse than she thought because he didn't even say the pickup line remotely right.
She gave him a puzzled look. "Irene...I don't think I've seen anyone as pretty as you..." he spoke his mind aloud.
Reluctantly, he put his hand on her neck. That was a little creepy, but she's seen guys do weirder. For a second, there was a bright white flash, and that's when she knew...this crazy, white-haired dude was her soulmate.
