Summary: this is for Caseycake193 she requested this(yes I do take requests): While on a quest to find a beast that is terrorizing a town, Gwaine gets injured. In order to not feel like a weak link or like he is holding them back, he hid it. How will the group react knowing one of their own was suffering alone? Protective Knights!

Gwaine has always been a proud knight ever since the day he became one. He was loyal and although he liked to make fun of Arthur, he still respected him. He would lay down his life for any of the Knights, Arthur and Merlin. He knows that feeling is returned as well.

Currently they were walking around the abandoned town that they evacuated not too long ago, looking for the certain beast the locals were so afraid of. In groups they searched nearly the entire place before Arthur finally found what he was looking for. A foot imprint in the dirt.

"By the mark's I believe it is a Griffin." Gwaine spoke, pointing at the way the foot looked.

"Have you had a run in with a Griffin?" Elyan asked, eyeing Gwaine.

Gwaine blew a raspberry, shooing Elyan away. "Of course I have. Never killed one but I have had a run in with one." Gwaine explained. That was true. He did run into one, but ended up running the other way. Mainly because it was bigger than he anticipated.

"I've dealt with one before with the help of Lancelot." Merlin explained, struggling to keep a straight face.

Gwaine knew this was a tough subject whenever it came to anything about Lancelot. Gwaine let a small smile escape his mouth as he walked over to Merlin, placing a hand on his shoulder and squeezing in a comforting matter.

Merlin smiled, the hurt in his eyes slowly dissipating. He nodded a thank you to Gwaine and Gwaine returned the nod, before stretching out his back.

"Well we have no choice. We must Stay here and keep watch. If it hasn't attacked yet it will." Arthur explained. "We make camp here. Gwaine you take first watch. Elyan you take second."

"Yes, Sire!" Elyan says before turning and walking back into the town.

"Merlin you get camp ready and gather all our supplies into the hut in the middle." He demanded.

Merlin groaned, but didnt bother to shoot any sarcastic words his way. Instead he made his way to the horses. Gwaine chuckled at the way Merlin stomped away like a child, deciding to go help him.

He helped Merlin set up Camp and some hunting equipment before finally retiring to the outskirts of town, walking back and forth on the perimeter. The only time he took a break was for food but other than that he stayed put on watch. As the night stretched on, Gwaine ended up sitting on one of the stone walls, hearing the dying fire crackle away and the soft snores of the others. He groaned, throwing his head back in boredom. He knew being on watch was important but he hated how boring it was being alone.

After nearly giving up to sleep, he heard some rustling in the treeline, his head snapping towards the noise. Jumping down from the Wall, he clutched his sword tightly, listening for some more noises. When. Nothing came, he relaxed slightly, deciding to go look at what that noise was.

Walking the perimeter closer to the treeline this time, he made it to the end of the village when he heard it. Heavy footsteps. Gwaine drew his sword, his breath picking up. "Hello?" He called.

Another moment of silence passed until the footsteps appeared, this time closer. Not having time to react the Griffin flew out of the forest, swiping, the creature caught Gwain in the side, causing Gwaine to gasp, clutching his side he wasted no time in running the opposite direction of the Griffin, hearing it follow him.
