areum pouted up at her father, her small arms crossed against her chest as she whined, "but i wanna see him again! he's my friend!"

namjoon watched the exchange, shuffling awkwardly on his feet as he saw seokjin's eyes soften as he gave in to his daughter's demands.

"okay," he sighed, his eyes flicking back over to namjoon. he would be lying if he said that the thought of seeing namjoon again made his heart warm with delight.

namjoon was surprised, his eyebrow lifting slightly as she processed what seokjin was implying.

that they can perhaps, see each other again.

"do you have..." seokjin trailed off, biting his bottom lip anxiously.

"oh, here." namjoon quickly caught on, shoving his hands in his pockets and taking out a card that he handed over to seokjin.

"kim namjoon, head author," seokjin read. "you've started writing?"

namjoon stiffened a little, a slight flush creeping up his cheeks. "i- uh yeah.."

seokjin can't help but smile for him. he knew how it was namjoon's dream to write books, to present his thoughts to the world.

something they'll remember me by, he used to say, as they laid underneath the stars so many years ago.

"come on then, areum-ah," seokjin called his daughter, adjusting her backpack so it hangs more comfortably on her back.

"bye, namjoon!" areum sang, shuffling over to him and holding her small hand out. namjoon took her small palm in his as he gave it a small shake.

seokjin smiled at him now, it was small and shy, yet it made namjoon's heart flutter as they shared one final nod and turned to leave.

when seokjin looked back briefly, namjoon's eyes were still watching him go.

as areum continued to happily chat next to him, seokjin's thoughts are loud, hopeful.

maybe this time, its different. they're older, wiser, no longer reckless teenagers in love. no longer teenagers with big dreams and uncertain futures.

his heart warmed as he clutched namjoon's card in his fingers. maybe this could be the start of something even better this time. he truly hopes it is.

and back where he left namjoon standing, the same thoughts are present, just as loud and hopeful.
