Ronald Weasley sipped his coffee carefully while reading the Daily Prophet. He glanced over at his wife, Hermione. "Muggles actually drink this every day?" He said. She nodded, and he sighed. Normally, he wouldn't touch such a bitter drink but he was slightly worried. Rose had sneaked out last night and still wasn't back yet. He knew this thanks to the charm he had installed on her window last year. Hermione put a plate of food in front of him, and glanced at his coffee mug.
"It helps if you put cream and sugar in it, Ron." She said. Ron nodded. That made sense. He glanced back at his newspaper when he heard the front door open and close.
"Good morning Rose." he said. He hoped she hadn't been sneaking out to see that boy again, but knew otherwise. He glanced over the top of his newspaper. Damn it. Said boy was sitting down at his table, with Rose.
Ron glared at Scorpius Malfoy. "This better be good, Rose." He didn't take his eyes off the boy. Rose nodded, and looked at Scorpius. Ron supposed they were holding hands underneath the table. At the very least. "Hands where I can see them!" he barked. Rose and Scorpius put their hands on the table, and began. "Sir, I know you don't approve of us dating-"
Ron snorted. "You bet I don't, Malfoy Junior."
"Dad! Can you please listen!" said Rose.
Ron nodded.
"Dad, Scorpius and I have something we want to tell, and ask you." Rose said.
Ron laid down his newspaper carefully. "You're not pregnant, are you?" He asked, glaring at Scorpius. Rose and Scorpius both turned red, and shook their heads violently. Ron picked up his newspaper again. "Well then, what is so bloody important?" Scorpius drew in a shaky breath and said, "Sir, we're getting married, and would like your blessing."
"No." Ron said.
He hadn't heard what Scorpius said, he was reading the Quidditch page. "No?" said Hermione, setting a plate of food down in front of Rose and Scorpius each.
"Hmm, what did you say dear?" Ron said absentmindedly.
"Ronald Bilius Weasly, put down that newspaper right now and listen to what your daughter and her fiancée have to say!"
Ron finally put down his paper. "Fiancée?" He gasped.
Everyone nodded, even Hugo, Rose's little brother. Scorpius and Rose held hands. Ron glared at Scorpius. "The answer is still no."
Hermione shook her head slowly, and said, "Ron, can I talk to you in the other room, please?" They both got up. When they were out of earshot of the others, Hermione said, "Ron, what's wrong with him? He's brave, he's loyal since they've been dating for several years with only minor troubles, like every couple has, he's smart, and he loves her, not to mention she loves him. What's wrong with him?"
Ron snorted. "You make him sound like he's Hogwarts, 'Mione. What's wrong with him? He's a bloody Malfoy! His father is the reason I gag whenever I see a slug! Don't forget what his father's favorite nickname for you was."
Hermione bit her lip. "No one is just like their father, Ron. Sometimes the apple falls really far from the tree."
Ron nodded, and said, "Yes, but the Malfoy apple doesn't."
Hermione sighed exasperatedly. "Look at them, Ron! He makes her happy. She makes him happy. How can I get you to agree to this? Rose wants her father at her wedding."
Ron shook his head. "Rose is seventeen. That is way too young to be getting married. She doesn't even know that he's the one, she's only been dating him for a couple of years. He might not be the one, and she might not know it."
Hermione blinked. "So this isn't just about the fact that he is Draco Malfoy's son, and there's a long standing rivalry between your family and his?" Ron seemed at a loss for words.
Hermione huffed. "I thought so. Now go back out there, and apologize to that young man!"
Ron shook his head. "No daughter of mine is marrying a son of Draco Malfoy."
