Soon, Rose and Scorpius were going back to Hogwarts, probably for the very last time. Scorpius had a job lined up for him at Gringotts, and Rose was going into the Ministry to work under her mother (especially on S.P.E.W). Albus brought up the subject when they were on the train, apparently he was going to go into work as an Auror, just like his father. Hannah said she was going to take over the Pub. Artemis told everybody she was going to be a Care of Magical Creatures professor, and Damien said he hadn't really thought about it, but he always wanted to supply the shops in Diagon Alley. He took Hannah's hand as he said that- everyone knew they were together (but they wouldn't admit it for whatever reason).
It took a while, but one night, Rose and Scorpius were walking by the Black Lake when they heard something. They peeked through the bushes, and saw the Death Eaters, all the ones that Dolohov had managed to assemble or initiate. Rose's eyes widened, but Scorpius put his hand over her mouth. There were too many of them. They ran back to Hogwarts as quietly as they could, and ran straight to the Headmistress's office.
"Chocolate frogs." Rose said, panting. McGonagall had continued to use candy as the passwords to the office, in honor of Dumbledore.
McGonagall looked up sharply as they entered. "To what do I owe this pleasure?" Her face turned hard. "You're not pregnant, are you, Miss Weasley? Those are the most complicated forms to fill out, especially when the father is from another house and there is a long standing rivalray between your families as with there is the two of you."
On the wall, Professor Snape sneered down at them. "For heaven's sake, Mr. Malfoy. You should know better than to be fraternizing with a Weasley, even if she acts like Miss Granger."
"Hey!" Scorpius said, putting his arm protectively around Rose.
Dumbledore's portrait chuckled. "My, my, Severus. You're touchy this evening. Is it because Miss Weasley reminds you of her mother, that is to say, Miss Granger reminded you of Lily Evans? I do believe you are slightly jealous of Mr. Malfoy, Severus." Snape glared at him, but said nothing.
"Professor, there are Death Eaters on the grounds. And Rose isn't pregnant." Scorpius said.
McGonagall leapt up immediately. "Seal the castle, protect the younger students. I'll get the rest of the teachers. Oh god, it's happening all over again." She muttered. She quickly strode through the door, leaving Scorpius and Rose behind. They exchanged a confused look and a shared though: Did McGonagall really just stride out of here? Then they ran after her.
She was already downstairs, sealing the castle. "I haven't done that since 1993." She said under her breath. Then she woke up the heads of the houses, told them what to do, and walked briskly towards Gryffindor tower. The Gryffindors were already awake. "I do not feel right about sending a bunch of schoolchildren out there, but I must warn you that we need you." McGonagall said stiffly. The Gryffindors flooded past her, as the Death Eaters broke in.
The raid the Death Eaters had planned went much better for the students than them. No one died, and all of the Death Eaters were hit with multiple Stunning Spells instantly, having been surprised. The Ministry officials arrived almost immediately after the threat was vanquished, among them Rose's father.
He looked a little disappointed that he hadn't been able to take down this new batch of Death Eaters, but at least he got to cart them off to Azkaban. This was the final blow that put him on Scorpius's side; Dolohov had dodged most of the spells heading towards him, save two that hit him at the same time. It was Rose and Scorpius who had done it. And even Ron could see they were meant to be together, noting Scorpius' attentiveness to her after the battle, even though she was barely hurt and just a little disoriented from a stray spell from a scared First Year.
