"Tuesday, July 30, 1827
It has been about six months since the incident of the Quads on Christmas Day. North Parajan Company led by the young Fernando Sorientto has recently announced a peaceful deal with Vaneski Co.—the largest Roktion trading company—which means that the hints of war that had peppered Lwendolen and Roktia now seem to have blown away on the wind..."
The man reading the paper sighed. From his window came the scent of the sea and from behind him in the kitchen was the scent of freshly baked croissants which were his favorite.
The quick footsteps of his butler broke the peace and he turned around to see the old man, Edwin, standing there with a single telegram.
"For you, sir, from the United Arcan."
"All the way?"
"The Chief Constable, sir."
"Damned, Arcans. Can't a man have some rest? I've told him I'll be off for the year. That means no telegrams until autumn."
Edwin chuckled. "Well sir, perhaps the Arcans have autumn sooner."
"Seems to be so. Let's see it then." He took the telegram with a sigh.
Detective Beagle
Westerfield. Top hat. Yellow kerchief. You know the drill.
Chief Constable Bailey
"Guess we must take a trip to U.A. Penelope, dear?" the man called to his wife.
"Shall I pack the croissants for the trip?"
"Yes, let's bring them."
Mallord Beagle sat up with a grunt and kissed his wife on the cheek as he went up to his room. While he was back home in Lwendolen, so much had happened, and he almost felt unrested.
Now he had to be back in the game and this time, it seemed like it would be better not to return home to rest but go elsewhere instead as he recalled the news in the paper word for word.
"...on the wind, yet the Quad story still continues. Mordecai's death was confirmed last month to have happened before Henry shot him as police have found evidence of glass shards in Mordecai's skin and a blunt force to the head, along with several bruises on his body.
"There were some of the same glass shards found in the Quad home at the foot of the stairs, suggesting he may have fallen down the stairs and died. Henry, unaware of his father's death, would have shot his father's dead body which was being kept by the distraught daughter.
"Henry Quad who committed ten or more murders, including a massacre in Mourning, is still contained in the Haven yet, he is talking about everything which led investigators to find and arrest a Red Circle criminal a few months ago for the killings of many innocents.
"Valerie, the younger sister is also in asylum but in the place for young, troubled girls, Daisy Dew Hill, with no prospect of ever getting better. Mordecai and Georgina Quad rest in peace in a quiet cemetery in Evrenland alongside their eldest son, Philip Beagle Quad. But the grave is empty.
"The plot thickens as it has been confirmed that Philip was not murdered by his parents but is instead missing. Rumors about hypnosis, witches, and voodooism fly around Lwendolen, yet police will not believe the hocus-pocus is the answer.
"And so it seems the Quad story will not die out any time soon leaving more questions than answers. What will become of this façade of Quad in Nimrod?"
