A Poem For My Youth

As my decade closes its doors
As do my childish ways
Hours away from the new year
I can't help but say
You've given me a good childhood
Each day, a new day
I've gone through tough doors
Thought of taking my life away

With hope, I'm still here
& help from good friends along my way
I've opened up my jar
And set my fireflies free
To whom I give all my love to
This I promise you

I promise an eventful time
That we'll go the distance
I'm willing to keep you
Even if you don't want to keep me
Because in the end, we're not so far
For you are, just the way you are

Thank you for my childhood
Let's give the next generation a better one
