I woke up and almost screamed with joy. Okay, and a little bit of fear. I mean come on, I was getting married today. It was supposed to be the happiest day of my life but so many things could, and were bound to, go wrong. I was alone in my bed, the Weasley women having forced Nico to sleep in another room. Apparently the groom wasn't supposed to see the bride before the wedding. It was meant to be bad luck, and we didn't need any more of that.
I yawned and stretched, calling 'come in,' when I heard a knock on my door.
Ginny, Hermione, Annabeth and Molly walked in, looking even more excited than I was. Behind them followed the Piper girl, looking rather nervous.
'Oh my dear you are going to look beautiful.' Mrs Weasley gushed, beaming.
'Thanks Molly,' I smiled. Molly was like a mother to me, especially as I hadn't met my real mom, Sally, until after the war.
'Come on, come on,' Ginny and Hermione squealed, pulling me out of bed and pushing me infront of a mirror.
'Hey, let me have a shower first,' I laughed, pulling away.
'Oh yeah, well hurry up,' Ginny commanded, not looking at all abashed. I swear that girl and her constant enthusiam will be the death of me. I quickly showered and washed my hair. I padded back to my room wrapped in a towel. I poked my tongue out at George when he wolf-whistled, earning him a slap from Angelina, who grinned at me.
When I entered my room I was hit in the face by a jet stream of hot air, which instantly dried my hair. Ginny looked smug and said, 'We'll go for a second so you can get decent, but then we'll be back.' She gave me a look that was clearly meant to be menacing but ended up ruining it with a huge grin.
She pulled the others from my room as I pulled on a strapless bra and some undies, as well as a small silk shift that had been left on my bed.
'I'm decent,' I called, chuckling when they barged back into my room, impatiently. The ceremony wasn't until this afternoon but it was obviously going to take a while to get ready.
'Okay, we'll do the dress last as we don't want it getting crumpled,' Annabeth said, guiding me to a chair in front of the mirror. I sat down as Piper came up and pulled out a ginormous make up bag.
'I'm not usually into this kind of stuff,' she said with a wrinkled nose, 'But my mum is Aphrodite and it is your wedding, so I'll make an exception.' I smiled at her as she got to work, pulling my hair this way and that. Eventually she decided on a style that she liked and I checked it in the mirror. I had to admit, it was lovely. The majority of it was bundled ontop of my head, with my normally straight hair cascading in curls down my back. A few strands had been artfully arranged around my face, making me look young but sophisticated.
'Thank you so much Piper,' I squealed in an uncharachteristic way. Give me a break though, I'm getting married.
'It's perfect,' agreed Hermione, whilst Molly gave a slight sniffle.
'Oh my gosh,' Annabeth shrieked, making me jump.
'What?' I asked urgently.
'Sally! She's still with Paul.' Annabeth said, tearing out of the room. She returned in a few minutes, dragging my mother, who had been talking to Paul Blofis, her boyfriend, in tow. 'Now your mom can watch you get ready.' she beamed.
Sally smiled and stood next to Mrs Weasley. I swear her eyes were already getting shiny and I didn't want anyone crying just yet, I was too excited.
'Hold still,' Piper commanded as she started on my make up. I felt the soft brushes flit over my face as Piper ordered commands. Finally after what seemed like hours, she announced that she was done.
I looked at myself in the mirror and gasped. It was me but, not. My skin was smooth and clear, not a spot in sight. My eyebrows were neat, my lashes long and dark, my eyes defined by a small amount of eye-liner, my cheeks tinged red and my lips dark and full. I felt tears well up in my ears but managed to blink them back. I didn't want to ruin Piper's work.
'Darling you look beautiful!' I was hugged ferociously by Sally and Molly, whilst Ginny fretted about them ruining my hair.
'You really do look gorgeous,' Hermione beamed.
'Yeah, Nico's really lucky,' Annabeth winked.
I grinned at the thought of Nico. Oh I was so ready for this. I watched them get the dress ready. Bring it on.
Nico's P.O.V.
I was a bit annoyed. I hadn't seen Skye in almost 24 hours. The morning had passed in a blur of suits, crude jokes and hurried advice. Now I was standing in a huge white marquee, in front of a slowly growing crowd. I was terrified.
I, Nico di Angelo, Son of Hades, who has defeated monsters, faced off gods and killed giants, was scared of a simple wedding ceremony. I gulped and tried to loosen my collar with shaking hands. Percy, my best man, stood next to me. He was relaxed and leaning easily against the altar. I wasn't sure if the gods would take offence to that but then I laughed to myself. This was Percy, of course the gods would take offence.
Suddenly there was a lull in the conversation and music started playing. I couldn't see where it was coming from but it was light and pretty, and it reminded me of laughter and summer. I grinned and then grinned even more when I saw people moving down the isle. Hermione came first, beaming and holding a huge bunch of flowers, red, to match the red and gold decorations. Apparently this was something to do with Skye's days at Hogwarts but I didn't mind. The whole place looked beautiful. Hermione was wearing a deep red dress with gold stitching which made her look georgous. She was followed by Ginny in a matching gold dress. They were both stunning and I could see Harry and Ron staring at them with wide eyes. Ginny winked cheekily at her husband, but my attention was quickly drawn to Skye, who had just started to walk towards me. My breath caught in my throat as tears threatened to spill over. She was so beautiful that I could hardly breathe. She looked up and smiled at me and I couldn't help but beam back at her. She looked like a goddess.
Annabeth was walking behind her, holding the long train of Skye's simple but elegant white dress. She looked up at me and Percy, winked, and then looked back to where she was going. Percy chuckled and I could hardly wait for Skye to stand by my side. I was so concentrated on Skye's face that I was barely aware of what was going on, but at one point during our vows I was aware of a sniffling, which turned into wailing. I risked a glance to see both Molly and Sally weeping into their hankies whilst Paul Blofis and Arthur Weasley desperately tried to console them.
The wedding official finally turned to me and asked 'Nico di Angelo, do you promise to take Skye Jackson as your lawfully wedded wife, in sickness and in health, in prosperity and in poverty, for better or worse, till death do you part?'
'I do,' I said confidently, entirely sure in the decision I was making.
The official smiled and turned to face Skye, but before either of them could say anything, a boom resounded through the tent, which was filled with a blinding white light.
I vaguely heard Percy yell 'Cover your eyes!' as I clamped mine shut.
When the light was gone I span to face the large number of eight foot figures coming down the isle towards us. They appeared to be arguing.
'Di Immortals!!' I yelled in frustration.
'Yes?' The group replied as one, turning to look at the wedding party, as if in suprise that they were here.
Then one of them seemed to regain their bearings more quickly than the others.
'I FORBID this wedding!' Screamed Hades.
'Nice of you to show, dad,' I countered, feeling rage start to boil in my veins. Why couldn't the gods, on the one day that really mattered to me, leave us alone?
