luke hadn't slept (or been in his headspace) for two days after michael shared the news with him. he wanted to cherish all of michael while he could, he didn't know if his new partner would let him see michael ever again.

michael tried to get him to sleep and to regress but nothing was working. luke would just get angry and cry until eventually he was sat staring at the wall.

they planned to go that day, but with the lack of sleep luke had recieved, michael wasn't sure it would be a good idea. he could barely keep his eyes open long enough to use the bathroom.

'lu, baby, let's go watch a movie, how's that sound? just me and you' luke nodded slowly and waddled over to his boyfriend, lying down on top of him.

'i love you michael, please don't forget me.' luke whispered before his body gave up and fell asleep.

the couple decided to head to the office after school on wednesday. they knew that they should go as soon as possible, hopeful that they could explain that they are working just fine. luke was petrified of being little around someone else.

when school let out on wednesday, luke was no where to be found. his teacher said he'd gone to the bathroom and never returned; the office said they say him leave with a note fifteen minutes prior. michael called him a few times with no answer, panicking after the last bell rang and the school was practically empty. he called luke once more as he ran to his car. he figured that maybe luke had just gone on the bus to dodge the appointment, but when he reached his car, his heart stopped racing.

luke was curled up in the backseat, his eyes trained on his phone with a picture of both luke and michael on it. michael almost broke down at the sight, but instead opened the backdoor and got in with him.

'ignoring my calls? sneaking into my car after also sneaking out of school, what's up luke?' luke sat up and wiped his teary eyes, not daring to look up at his boyfriend.

'i'm just gonna miss you, and i'm scared.' luke spoke softly as he looked back at his phone, which still displayed their photo.

'i'm not going to lose you that easy, lu. let's just head over to the office and figure out what's happening' luke nodded and gave michael a hug, kissing his cheek multiple times before settling back down.

'are you going to come sit up front?' michael asked when he got into the driver's seat and noticed luke hadn't moved.

'wan' have little time with mikey.' luke spoke, his eyes crinckled due to his growing smile. michael was glad that he could finally relax and be a little happy, despite the current situation they both found themselves in.

when they arrived at the office, luke refused to get out of the car at first. he just pouted and let his shaky bottom lip take dominance over michael. the caregiver rolled his eyes and sat down in the back seat, trying to console luke for the second time that day.

'baby, it's gonna be a quick in and out, they might just ask you a few questions, okay?' luke shook his head angrily and scooted away from michael.

'mikey doesn't even care 'bout me. wants rid luke.' luke cried, his mind racing with what the doctors might tell him. what if they told him he was a bad little? that he wasn't allowed to be little? he was starting to like being little now, he didn't want to lose it!

'i care about you so much, luke. we're best friends, remember?' michael's voice cracked, and luke looked up through watery eyes. michael was trying so hard to keep a strong smile on his face as he looked at the little.

'i'm never going to lose you, i promise, lu' michael tackled luke in a hug, his own tears soaking luke's shirt.

the pair eventully exited the car, walking the short distance to the office door. luke dawdled behind, dragging his feet while holding michael's hand.

when they entered, luke immediately wandered over the the toys and sat down, playing with the little cars they had.

'luke hemmings and michael clifford?' luke looked up and saw a familiar doctor, smiling to her and standing up.

'hello, luke, how've you been?' luke smiled again and said, 'i been good! we havin' some fun!' michael smiled nervously, his hands sweating as he thought about what this meeting could be about.

'is there a reason you two are in today?' she asked, puzzling the caregiver.

'uh, we were actually called in, something about luke being permanently assigned.' the look on her face made michael nervous, the look of confusion.

'i never called for a reassignment, one second.' she walked away, and michael's heart dropped. was something wrong? he held luke's hand tighter, making the small boy whine.

's-stop it, hurts, mikey!' luke yelped, but michael was so focused on the two doctors returning to them. they stopped in a different hallway, out of sight from the couple, but not out of earshot.

'...but i never even called for a reassignment, i figured they were good together.'

'well, you don't have the right, doctor. you are a match maker for misplaced littles. it is up to the real match makers, and they both have pre-existing matches. mr. clifford has proven to be unfit with everyone, what makes luke special.' michael froze, his heart sinking further into his stomach. unfit? what made him unfit? it's not his fault he had been misassigned with so many littles.

'm-mikey, what's happening?' luke was speaking normally now, the nickname merely a sign of his worry.

'i don't know baby, but don't worry. we'll figure this out.'

the doctors both returned, ms. fleming staying behind to let the other, unnamed doctor speak.

'we apologize for the misunderstanding, but luke simply cannot be your little. if you would allow us to speak in private for a moment. michael pulled away from luke, looking him in the eyes, giving him the best smile he could.

'i'll be right back, honey. don't worry'
