The Assassination (Backstory)

Though worry plaqued all of them

Afterall the plan of Valkyrie was a dangerous plan or more like a suicide mission.
Like Saracen pronounced or like Donegan said, they don't know what will await her on the other side.

It could be a destroyed lair.
It could be the middle of the battle.
It even could be Mevolent and his Generals patiently waiting for her on the other side.

It could be anything, but no one would be able to say for sure, what.

Which had them all worried in the first place, when the plan got revealed to them.

Still.

Serpine was part of them, a friend, she owed so much.

There was no way she's gonna leave him to perish.

How unbelievable that sounds, it was true. The Serpine from her dimension may have been evil and cruel, but compare to him , the Serpine she knew now, was friendly and kind.
Indeed in the beginning she may have hated him, because of his other Dimensional-self,, which he, although in that moment hadn't known, understood.
However as time flew by even that conflict started to fade. He started to earn her trust, whilst she slowly became kind and forgiving.
Hence they became closer with each visit she payed him, 'till the day, she told him, why she hadn't trusted him in the first place, all those years ago.
In exchange he answered her a question, that had been in her mind, since the first day she had seen him in the Resistance many years ago and was told of his Betrayal.

The one difference, that didn't happen with their Serpine.

It was the Question : Why and How? What had brought Serpine to betray him?

And the answer stunned her more than anthing.

For the Mevolent in his Dimension, not only did something to the Resistance and mortal. No, he also exploited, used, mistreated or abused his Generals.
Which pushed Serpine so far that he wanted to leave and abonden Mevolent to worship the Faceless Ones alone, if the Resistance wouldn't have shown him the Truth in these God's somewhen later.
Though according to him, at first his friend had stopped him and begged him to stay, to give their 'Master' a chance to change. Which he had even agreed with, only to be pushed even more.

And Mevolent had found out about his doubts and hatred towards him

Leading to the faithful day of his so called Betrayal.

It was an ice cold and clear autumn night in the middle of Dublin - within - wall and Mevolent had pleased Serpine to help him handle some disturbance on his kingdom.
But there never was.... any disturbance and in reality it was only a distraction to lure him inside a lonely, lifeless side street, separated from any kind of human-soul. Only to there be lunged a knife-like little razor in the middle-section of his chest, only centimetres beside his heart from behind.

An assassination!

To Mevolent unluck, luckily in vain.

He had thought he was dead, as he threw him against one of the stone walls of the beside-standing building, once he plunged the knife into him. But the collision with the wall, only made him unconscious.
Destined to probably bleed to death or rot, till his skeleton would once be discovered, luckily, he may not know how, but they found him.
China, Ghastly and Harmony, who were kneeling beside him and tried to hold him alive on the last thin string his life had hung, once he regained a bit of consciousness, that had faded away only seconds later, again.

For Valkyrie this was also the day, her friendship with him really begun and she started to owe him so much over the next few long years.

Today she would repay him that favor.
