It's a few minutes before 11 AM so I leave the apartment with my normal bag and Corey's jacket. I walk over and don't even bother ordering any coffee. I sit down in the normal chair him and I sit at. I sit there and wait for him to arrive. I stare out the window to pass the time. I check the time and see that it's a few minutes past 11. I sit there for a little while and about ten minutes past 11 Corey runs in. He sees me sitting where we usually sit, he smiles when his eyes come across me. He orders coffee and then sits across from me.
"Sorry, quite a bit of traffic."
"That's fine," I say. "So why did you need me to come?"
"I wanted to make it up from yesterday. Today we're going to all the stores you want to go to and you'll buy what you'd like," he explained, smiling.
Before I could say anything back to him, a barista called out, "Corey!"
He got up to retrieve the coffees. He came back and placed my cup in front of me and smiled. He took a sip from his coffee and I stared out the window, sipping mine.
"So whenever you wanna go to the store," he said, without looking I knew he was smiling.
"I won't make you buy that much."
We sipped our drinks while the scent of coffee and hints of pastries wafted around the room. Murmurs of talking from the corners of the Café weren't audible but still known. My eyes drifted across the various small details in the Café. The paintings hanging off the wall, the bit of plant life in the corners, things of that nature.
When we finished our coffee, we head to his car. He starts driving and I realize something.
"Something I just realized is I rarely leave within a few blocks of my apartment. I typically stay cooped up in my apartment and go to the café sometimes. The stores I go to are a bit out of that comfortable range as well. I can't recall the last time I went to the mall, but I'm guessing months back," I say to Corey."Damn, I'm always going around and about. Different states and countries since that is a part of my job," Corey said.
"I wish I could travel around as you do," I say.
"What's the job you have?"
"I do art and sell it. I don't make enough money to go out to places, sadly," I say.
"Maybe I can see if you can tag along of a TFIL trip or go do some paranormal stuff with Sam and Colby," He says smiling, keeping his eyes on the road.
"That'd be fun! I do believe in the paranormal, ever since I was a kid. There was this weird feeling that I always had and believed that there was a 'spirit world.' I did prove that to myself from the stuff my friends and I did when I still lived in my hometown."
"What did y'all do?" Corey asked.
"Ouija board and there was an abandoned haunted hotel in the town," I said.
"Do you play the board anymore?" He asks curiously.
"No, because I haven't seen one in a few years. I wouldn't mind playing. Paranormal doesn't scare me, it interests me," I said.
He nods his head, keeping his eyes on the road ahead of us. I look outside at the passing scenery. Blurs of people walking, some with animals. Reflections of cars in the windows of shops, different colors with a tint of whatever the glass's color was. A few minutes go by with a heavy silence lingering in the car. We finally arrive at the mall and Corey breaks the silence by saying, "We're here!"
