warnings: none!Damon set his jacket on the chair in his room, beginning to get changed for the night. He was ready to tell Angel that he loved her, which was a giant step in his life. He hadn't loved anyone since Katherine, and the fact that Angel took her place made him more excited than he could express. He wanted to spend his life with Angel, but that also meant telling her the truth about everything.
He wasn't sure if he was ready for that, but he knew for sure that he loved her. He was setting the table for dinner, which was salad and homemade deep dish pizza in the center of the table. The bakery had shut down a week prior, so he asked for the owner to help him with the pizza. She gladly accepted as she seemed to be the only person who liked Angel and Damon being together.
The front door open and shut, Damon looking over with a wide smile. He stood at the table, Angel walking into the kitchen with her things in her hands. She stopped when she saw the table, a small smile going across her face.
"I thought that since it's our six month anniversary, I'd make something nice for you," Damon said, motioning to the table. Angel walked to him as he seemed more nervous than he usually did. "Plus, I just wanted to tell you that I-"
"Ah-ah," Angel interrupted, Damon looking at her confused. "Before you say what I think you're going to say, I want to eat first. It's been such a long day and there's something we need to talk about." Damon's heart skipped a beat at her words, and his stomach churned. But not the way it usually did when she talked to him, this time it was a nervous and terrified churn. They both sat down to eat, starting with the salad. "I got this phone call at work, and surprisingly enough it was about you."
"Oh, am I getting popular in the Galena Times office?" Damon asked, raising an eyebrow with a smile.
"Who's Katherine?" Angel asked. Damon stopped what he was doing, looking up at Angel slowly. He could see that she had tears in her eyes, but she was blinking them away. "Damon, please don't lie to me. Who is Katherine? And what did you do in the fifties that made someone want to break us up?" Damon got even more terrified, not knowing how anyone could know about Enzo. He'd turned off his emotions because of Enzo, but when he got to Galena, he turned them on. Then he met her.
"Angel, it's a long story," Damon told her, his voice quiet. "It's... It's a lot to take in, too."
"I think we've got time. Entire night. I'm not expecting anyone, are you?" Angel asked, Damon shaking his head slowly. "Good." Angel went back to her food, Damon slowly going to his.
"I love you," he said, looking up at her. "That's what I was going to tell you. That I love you." Angel clenched her jaw, then looked at Damon as he was waiting for her answer.
"I love you, too, Damon," she said. "Now, tell me how you prepared all of this." Damon smiled as things felt normal again, but he knew they were about to get a lot worse.

Damon was putting the dishes in the sink after dinner, preparing himself for what he was about to tell Angel. He didn't want to tell her yet, it was too early. He wanted to spend just a little more time with her, but it was now or never. He put the final dish in the sink, going to his room as Angel was already waiting on his bed.
"Okay, big guy, story time," she said, patting the space next to her.
"One thing first," Damon said, holding up a finger to her. He turned to his dresser, pulling out the gun that he'd put in there, then grabbed the chest of things he'd kept. He walked to the bed, Angel turning to him as he slowly opened the chest. "The things I'm about to show you... You're not going to believe me."
