Carmen giggles as she pets the fluffy pink animal. It has a soothing effect on her which she very much needs right now. She feels a hand on her shoulder and looks up to see Percy holding a book with watery blue markings on it.

"Come on Carm we've had a look around and we can look some more once you're healed," Percy says, trying to nudge her back into the elevator.

Right....Prim. DARN YOU REALITY! Carmen spins to the side to get away from Percy's nudges and goes back to the table with her fluffy pink pet. She sifts through the papers on the tables and feels something pierce her skin. She jumps back and hisses in pain. Percy dashes over and lifts up her finger to see blood dripping out already.

"Really Carm? Take a break from hurting yourself please," Percy says with a sigh.

"Not until I know what I need to know." Carmen looks down and notices something shimmery. She pushes away the bits of broken glass and sees a strange black substance that seemed to glisten.

"What is that?" Percy wonders aloud.

"Percy... give me the book."

"Why?"

"I need to find out what it is."

"I don't think you can."

"Why?" Carmen asked.

"Cause I think my dad had someone enchant it to only react to those who have his blood. The runes are like the ones on the sword. They glow and light up whenever I touch them."

"Well then can you look?"

"Sure give me a minute." Percy opens up the book and begins to skim through. Carmen touches the dark substance. It was slimy and seemed to be somewhere between a liquid and a solid.

Like..... yogurt...... I mean seriously is it a solid or a liquid? A food or a drink?! Okay focus. Carmen puts a bit on her finger and holds it up. Only to be hit with a flash. Visions pass by in quick succession until they stop at one, it's a memory. Carmen is holding Prim in her arms as she sings to her. Outside it's dark and although she tries to hide it, Carmen is nervous. Once Prim falls asleep Carmen creeps to the window and looks outside. There, in the shadows, is a wolf. Carmen backs away from the window and goes to one of the floorboards nearby. Quietly, so as not to disturb anyone in the room, she reaches inside and grabs two long daggers. Her eyes dart nervously to the window as she puts the floorboard back. She creeps down the hall and slips outside. Her breaths become short and panicked as she approaches where she saw the wolf. She takes a steadying breath and raises her daggers. She creeps around the orphanage slowly as her eyes dart to every shadow and crevice. She lowers her daggers as she makes it back to the entrance and begins to pull the door open when a snarl rips through the air. Carmen closes the door quickly and turns around to see the white as snow beast, with raging red eyes. It's ribs show through its rib cage and its ears lay back, flat against its head.

It hasn't eaten in a while... it'll be weaker. And if it isn't eating it's probably alone. No pack. Should be easy enough.....right? Carmen lunges at the wolf who leaps away before responding with a swat. It's massive paw hits Carmen directly on the head causing scratches to appear all over. Carmen flinches but doesn't hesitate she slashes the wolfs paw and it howls in pain.

Nu uh buddy. Carmen rushes forwards and wraps rope around it's muzzle to silence it's cries. The wolf crouches down in a submissive pose when Carmen looks it in the eye. Carmen raises her dagger and stares down the wolf. Suddenly a white blur runs by her and straight to the wolf, followed by two others. The mother wolf tries to shoo the pups away but they refuse to budge. Carmen sighs and goes back into the orphanage. She returns outside with a wet towel, a bandage, and some meat. She tosses the meat to the wolves and sits down in front of the mother with the towel and bandage. She locks eyes with the wolf who lays it's head between it's front paws and closes it's eyes. Carmen smiles slightly and begins to wash the cuts before bandaging them up. She watches the pups play for a bit before helping them into a hollowed out tree where she could look after them for a few days.

I won't make any more orphans in this world. The pets the mother goodbye and then walks back to the orphanage.

Little did she know she she had an audience that day. Prim looks down from her window in awe.

"Someday I'll be just like you Carmen. I'll be brave and kind. And when I get my powers I'll make sure to help everyone like you do." She climbed back into her bed and curled into her covers.

Darkness takes over Carmen's vision as a females voice rings out.

"But that day never came for young Prim. Did it Carmen?"

Then Carmen lost consciousness.
