I felt splendid! I danced with Skyler. He looked so handsome in his tux. And we held hands. Well sort of held hands, but either way I felt like flying. I hurried off to see what the Queen wanted. I followed her through the hallway and into her study.
The Queen gave a small smile. "How was your night Bridget?" She asked.
"Oh, your majesty it was wonderful!" I replied happily.
"Good, good..." She started, her eyes looked down, "How is the hunt for the healer coming?"
My heart dropped, but I smiled as convincingly as I could "I believe it is going well, we haven't found them yet but-"
The Queen cut in "You haven't found him yet? Then I don't believe that is called going good." She said venomously.
I cleared my throat, "I am doing the best I can right now your majesty, we just can't find them."
She gave a wicked smile.
My heart began to race.
"Or you can't find the healer, because YOU are the healer!" The Queen yelled.
My heart almost stopped. "Wha...what?" I replied.
"You heard me!" The Queen shouted again as she pressed a button, "Agent Paine has informed me that he asked the people in the fighting area that day, and they said that there was no one but you."
My heart was beating so fast I couldn't think. THINK I told myself.
"Oh, and just to make sure that they weren't lying we got one more person's testimony." The Queen smirked.
Three drone guards came in and grabbed me and drug me into the back room. The room that was surrounded by mirrors that I had nightmares about for the last three days. I looked at myself in the mirror and realized how crazy the Queen looked and how frightened I looked. I swallowed. I must be brave. I calmed my face.
But the Guards didn't put me on the chair. They held me fast. Suddenly the other door opened and Agent Paine walked in with an evil smirk on his face. Behind him was two drone guards carrying in a body with the black sack over his head.
The body was wearing a purple suit.
I gasped. It was Carson. I fought back tears. Carson was right I shouldn't have told him about the healing or about anything. The Queen ripped the black sack off of Carson's head. Carson's ears were bleeding where piercings use to hang. Now they were just bloody holes. Carson had a huge gash on his forehead and he looked like death. I struggled to try to get free to help Carson but it was no use, the guards were too strong.
The Queen gave a smile. But not a loving smile, it was a maniacal smile. She whispered "Vulneri." And the gashes and holes healed themselves. She then stuck her hands on his heart then on the back of his head.
She said "Mea est anima tua."
A white smoke floated out of Carson and into the Queen just like Brutus. I couldn't hold back the tears anymore. The tears streamed freely down my face.
I sniffled, "Why?"
The Queen gave a heartbreaking laugh and replied, "So I can do this."
She turned to Carson, he was awake now, "Carson? Who healed Skyler?"
Carson looked at the Queen and said, "It was Bridget."
The Queen smiled and looked at me, then turned her attention back to Carson.
"Is Bridget the healer?" The Queen asked.
Carson replied in a monotone voice again, "Yes."
I was now in a panic. The Queen wanted to kill me and she just took Carson's soul. We were doomed. Skyler! What about Skyler? What would happen to him? All these thoughts ran through my head.
The Queen then faced Carson and said, "Carson, here are your orders: You are going to act like nothing is wrong. You are going to act like you still have a soul. Then tomorrow you are going to escort Skyler to the tournament and help him. If he wins, I want you to kill him. If he loses then problem solved. Do you understand?" Carson nodded and he stood and walked out of the room.
"Why kill Skyler?" I asked sourly.
"Oh, my dear, I was never going to let him live anyway. He is just for entertainment and one less Morphing to worry about. One less rebelous teenager that thinks they can win anything with a little training, those filthy things need to be wiped out." The Queen replied.
"What are you going to do with me?" I asked. I already knew the answer, I was going to be next in the chair, and I was going to die.
"Oh, I am going to keep you locked up in a secure location far away from here. Now you are going to ask why. Well I read that you can't just steal the soul of a sorcerer. They have to be willing to give you their soul. And they can't freely give their souls because that not humanly possible. So, you have to break their will, then you can manipulate the person into doing what you want. And you will offer me your soul and I will live forever." The Queen said as the guards pulled me out of the room and into an ally way where they put me into a truck.
"Bridget, I wish you would have been honest with me but it looks like you can't be trusted. I will see you soon my child. You were always my favorite." She said as the truck started. As it pulled away I looked at the Queen she looked so pleased with herself. And I was riding to my demise.
