Wow, just wow. My first day of school just started and I've made two friends. I may have also found a love interest. Ah, I just realized how dumb that probably sounds. It honestly almost sounds like something the protagonist of a cartoon would say.

My first two classes go without a hitch, which is surprising, seeing as misfortune seems to follow me everywhere.

I ran into Mikey again on my way to the lunch room. No, we actually ran into each other.

"Sorry"

"No need to apologize, dude, it happens to the best of us"

"But, I got in your way."

"Yeah? And so does everyone else."

"In case you haven't noticed in the hallways, I'm not so tall"

"Haha, yeah," I sigh. Is he always this chill? I've got to ask Xander. Anyway, as it turns out Mikey and I have the same lunch block. That is cool. Mikey packed his food, so he sits down at a table while I head off to the food lines. I get what I know best for lunch, a slice of pizza and a slushie. When I got back to the table Mikey was joined by two more people presumably some of his friends. I sat next to him.

This is when the inevitable finally happens. The thing that I had feared since the beginning. Ever since I know I would be put into such an unfamiliar place. A plastic tray smacks the back of my head, hard, making a good thwack sound. I turn around to see a tallish boy standing behind me, holding an empty tray and a sneer on his face.

I assume that Mikey senses the small commotion because he suddenly stands up.

"Dude, what's your problem?" he practically shouts. The two people, who I have not yet met exchange tired looks with each other.

"You wanna say that again, homo?" The boy says, sounding overwhelmingly cocky.

"You've got a lot of nerve trying to pick a fight"

"You've got a lot of nerve being alive." The commotion attracts even more attention causing people to stand up and form a crowd around us. Because of this, the adults watching over us finally noticed the scuffle going on.

As soon as it started, it was over. An adult parted the crowd almost like the Red Sea, and they take Mikey and the boy out to the hall.

A couple of months passed, and the kid that started the conflict received out-of-school suspension, while Mikey got away with detention. Everything seems to be getting better now, it turns out that stuff like that was happening pretty gosh darn often. Oh, and the other people at the table, are also LGBT. Their names are Vic and Yuri. It seems like it was just yesterday Xander had the idea of starting a Gay/Straight Alliance, or GSA, in other words, a space for us and the others.

Eh, I really should stop dwelling on the past so much. Today is the day I do something great, starting the GSA. A sudden cough brings me back to reality, it's Mikey. We are sitting in the small sitting area waiting to talk to an administrator about starting the club.

"Yo, you ready for the meeting today?" Mikey says, with his arm around my shoulder.

"Ah yeah, how could I ever forget something that could affect so much of our lives?"

"Ha ha, real funny Richard"

"Alright, Michelangelo," I laugh. Our conversation is cut short by us being called into the office for the bringing of the meeting.

I'll spare the boring details, but the GSA has been approved and the first meeting is for next week.
