I was woken up by a ringtone coming from the other side of the bed. So definitely, it wasn't mine. I tried going back to sleep but the ringing of his phone made me wide awake. I had a sudden urge to relieve myself, so I tried getting up from the bed and run towards the bathroom.
I tried to leave the bed again but realised being restrained by a pair of arms around my waist. I was pressed tightly against a gym-toned bare chest at the back.
I shook Aarav to wake him up, but he stirred a bit at my efforts and went back to sleeping. He was definitely a heavy sleeper. An idea popped up in my head and I was so ready to use it on him.
I pulled his hand slowly and brought it near my mouth. I opened my mouth and brought his Pinky finger between my teeth. I bit him with a slight pressure, which startled him awake. I smiled internally on completion of my deed. Mission accomplished.
He woke up with a loud 'aaahhh' and frantically looked at every direction to search for the reason of his pain. When his eyes landed on me, expression of relief went through his face. A moment later, his face sparkled with realisation and his lips curled up into a smirk.
"Was that you baby?"
I tried suppressing my smile on his question but maybe I was too late.
"Aarav, you were holding me too tight. You didn't even bulge at your phone ringing. So I had no choice. I had to use the bathroom. Sorry."
"That's ok baby. But you know you are going to pay for this, right?"
I looked at him and and his eyes flashed with mischief. The second I felt his hand loose, I ran towards the bathroom and locked in from inside quickly.
"Sorry baby. I'll pay later."
"Divya. That's not fair. Ok. No problem. I'm waiting for you to come out."
I heard him shouting from the other side of the door. I went forward and did my business. I went back to the sink to wash my hands, when I looked up to see myself looking back at me.
My hair was a bit messy and my face was make-up free. My eyes still held the exhaustion of the day. I was in one of Aarav's shirt, which covered me till mid-thigh. The shirt smelled like his fragrance which calmed my nerves anywhere, anytime. He had this strange effect over me. Even his piece of cloth had such a power over my emotions.
I shook away all my thoughts and opened the door to leave the bathroom. I peeped inside the room, only to find it empty. I was confused but a few seconds later, I realised that I was so engrossed in my thoughts that maybe I didn't hear him leaving the room.
Was he angry on me? Was he upset? Was it stupid to act like that? I never wanted to upset him. He won't leave me, right? He was the only ray of light in my dark life. I can't even tolerate, him being furious with me. It would literally kill me to be away from him.
I was panicking and I knew who could stop my panic attack.
I left the room in search of the only person who could soothe me and calm my emotions down.
I walked through the hallway only to find him coming towards me. I was already on the verge of crying. But when his presence came to my sight, I couldn't hold back my tears any longer.
"A-Aarav. Where were you? I c-couldn't... I didn't s-see you, when I came out. I thought... I thought you were upset. Aarav, I'm sorry. Please. Please don't be upset. Don't... You won't leave me, right? You... You..."
Aarav wrapped me in his arms, the moment he saw my face. He held me in a tight hug, calming me down in the process. How could he? How could a simple touch, bring a massive shift in my mood in a few seconds. A moment ago I was panicking and now, I was so serene.
"Sshhh... Sshhhh... Stop crying baby. What happened? I was just... I am not angry. I won't leave you. I promise. Calm down first. Please."
I nodded my head and shut my eyes tightly, taking in his fragrance to soothe my nerves and emotions.
"Ahem..."
We were brought to present by someone clearing their throat to catch our attention. Aarav turned around to face the person, whereas I tried to hide myself behind his tall frame.
I was a mess at the moment and to face someone at my vulnerable moment was something I always avoided. Aarav was someone who saw me at my worst so I was comfortable with him. But a complete stranger was a completely different case. Anyhow, the presence of a stranger piqued my curiosity, so I peeped at the person from behind him, like a child.
The person standing in front of me, radiated authority, similar to Aarav's. Her appearance was elegant and her face held a mild softness. Her calmed demeanor was enough to make someone fear a storm. Maybe she was a person of few words.
I cringe inside when I felt her eyes evaluating me from top to bottom. I knew how the scene would have looked in front of her. But I was at loss of words. I didn't even know who she was. Her face held a similarity but I couldn't put my fingers as to where have I seen her.
My question was answered in the next moment when Aarav opened his mouth to acknowledge the person in front of him. And I was stunned to hear what came out of his mouth.
"Mom. She is Divya. The girl I told you about the other day."
I was speechless and like a lost puppy, I looked back and forth between those two people, absorbing the scene unfolded right in front of my eyes.
