Standing in the doorway of the kitchen with her baseball bat at the ready (Y/N) glares at the unfamiliar demon that's standing in the center of a pile of pots and pans scattered on the kitchen floor. He is just staring back at (Y/N) in the seemingly endless awkward silence.
"Alright, listen... just put the bat down and-" "How about you start answering some questions, first!" (Y/N) adjusts her grip on the bat a little, pulling back as if prepared to smack the guy at the first possible sign that he might be dangerous. "WOAH! woah, okay!" he raises his hands to eye level as he takes a step back, a clear -dong- sounding as he kicks one of the pots on the ground with his heel.
"Why are you here?"
"Well I-"
"I thought their summoning didn't do anything!"
"Wait- what about a summoning-?"
"Why do you look kind of human?"
"That I don't-"
"Where did you even come fro-!"
"COOL IT WITH THE QUESTIONS DAMMIT! I CAN'T ANSWER IF YOU DON'T LET ME TALK!!"
(Y/N)'s question vomit stops as she's interrupted by the demon shouting... "Oh... right." (Y/N) quietly says as she lowers her bat a bit. He sighs "Jeez, I run through the first portal I see and the first living thing I meet is a crazy lady with a baseball bat." (Y/N) shoots him a dirty look, not appreciating being called crazy. "So... there was some kind of portal, huh?" she asks, still gripping her bat in one hand. "Yeah. I was in a bit of a pinch back there, and then a portal opened up in front of me, so I ran through." a little skeptical, (Y/N) confidently rests her bat on her shoulder. "What do you mean by a pinch?" he just narrows his eyes and crosses his arms. "Be as intimidating as you want, shortie, It's not like your holding a gun to my head. I don't have to tell you what I mean." "Well I spooked you before." (Y/N) mumbles, intentionally loud. "Hey! When a tiny chick waving goddamn baseball bat appears from the darkness and starts yelling, I don't think I'm the only one whose first instinct would be panic!" he shouts, very defensive all of a sudden.
"Okay, then. Next question, Who are you?"
"Not answering that one."
"Do you drink blood?"
"No."
"Do you possess people?"
"I have my own body so, no."
"Are you a succubus kind of demon?"
"F*CK NO!"
"Then why do you look human?"
"I don't know."
"Wait, you don't know?" (Y/N) asks, taken aback by that for some reason, she gets a nod in response from him. "So... what kind of demon are you?" "Yeah- I don't know." (Y/N) is legitimately stumped, other than the fangs and red eyes he could easily pass for a human but she can't think off any demons that disguise themselves as humans off the top of her head... well, other than the one she already knows he's not. "Well? What's the verdict here, are you gonna hit me with the bat or not?" After a moment of (Y/N) quietly trying to think of different demons the one standing in the kitchen breaks the silence by asking what she's decided. "I mean... I guess you're not the most dangerous kind of demon there could be..." (Y/N) pauses for a moment as she lowers her bat "but... I still want you out of my house." "That's fair, I could've expected that." he says, surprisingly calmly. "Any clue where you're going to go then?" (Y/N) asks, since the tense air has loosened. "Well... I can't go back... so, I have... no idea..." he scratches the back of his head as he thinks... (Y/N) pauses, having to hold her breath to make sure she didn't say anything before she could make the obvious, rational decision of kicking him ou- "You can stay here." jesus christmas- (Y/N) just blurts it out along with a pretty deep sigh. "What?" he is completely dumbfounded by her sudden change of mind. "But, you just said-" "Yeah, I know what I said. Just... forget about it, I have a spare room you can stay in." (Y/N) tries not to question what she's just decided on as she gestures for him to follow her. "Uh... thanks I guess...?" he hesitates for a second before he starts following (Y/N) as she starts heading down a short hallway. They both stop in front of the guest bedroom door. "Well, here we are. So, can you tell me your name?" (Y/N) asks nonchalauntly. "What?" "Your name. I've gotta call you something." he looks off and thinks. "They must've called you something back in the demon realm-"
"...Ryder."
"Really?"
"What, were you expecting some wierd, tough to pronounce name?"
"I mean kind of, but-"
"Well alright then, I told you my name tell me yours."
"It's (Y/N)."
"..."
"What?"
"Nothing... it's a nice name."
"Well, yours is too."
(Y/N) awkwardly smiles. "Night then, Ryder." she turns and starts heading back down the hall to go upstairs. "...Night..." (Y/N) barely catches what Ryder said, but she smiles and heads back upstairs, placing her trusty baseball bat back where it belongs in the hallway before she heads for her bedroom.
Tumbling onto her bed and staring up at the ceiling, (Y/N) quietly contemplate's what she just did. "I just told a demon he can stay at my house..." she blinks twice as she questions her sanity and tries to understand her own mumbling. "I'm not crazy... but I'm not dreaming either." she rolls onto her side and yawns. "I'll text Nina in the morning." she nearly closes her eyes, but she glances at her fate ties once. Everything is as it should be, the ties flow and fade off in different directions and a crimson ribbon hangs inconspicuously from the loop on (Y/N)'s pinky, fading away into thin air at the end like all the rest... (Y/N) starts dozing off for a moment before her eyes shoot open and she jolts up to sit, staring at the crimson ribbon with wide eyes.
"Wha-!?... h-how!? When did-!?" (Y/N) can hardly find the words to vocalize her utter shock and confusion, just this morning she still had some kind of cutoff from her soulmate, according to that ribbon she wasn't going to be with her soulmate in this lifetime and now, out of the blue it's telling her there's someone her soul is bound to be with. (Y/N) blinks away the the vision of the ribbons, and makes herself see them again, hoping that if it's a trick of the light or just her tired brain making her see things, a quick restart will get rid of the trick.
But there it is clear as day (Y/N) can hardly believe it, but there's a bittersweet feeling in seeing it connected to someone, she's been at peace with it being disconnected for so long that it seems almost surreal that there could really be someone out there that's her soulmate. (Y/N) sits stunned for a while until the glow in her eyes fades along with her vision of the ribbons. She blinks and lays back down on her bed... she stares up at her ceiling and lets herself doze off as her thoughts trail around in circles.

The next morning (Y/N) wakes up and grabs her phone from her desk to text Nina. "Morning, your summoning yesterday did a thing. Get to my house, and bring Ryo and Christi." (Y/N) looks away from the phone for maybe three seconds to yawn before there's a quiet -ping- from her phone. It's Nina... already. "Rlly? Yas!! I'll get the bois and get ovr ther!" (Y/N) chuckles at Nina's text-talk. "Ok, see you." after sending her reply (Y/N) goes to get up when, -Ping- she gets another message from Nina.
"Btw (Y/N) wat did we summon???"
