The ground shook as the giant beasts that the dark fae summoned moved forward. Their massive feet matching the size of their bodies. They easily dwarfed the largest among them, the beasts were so massive and hideous. Their skin was a muddy dark green. Their heads appeared skeletal and plated. Spines were sticking out at odd angles to prevent attacks. Their eyes were a glowing bright yellow and their teeth looked like they formed straight from the skull as a part of it. Their ears were bat-like. They were large and rotated like a cat's, as if to catch the slightest sound. Small animals scurried out of their way.
Behind the giant lizard like beasts were mounted soldiers. riding unicorns that were magically bound, some rode an animal that was odd looking to say the least. It's hide looked like it was armoured, it had smaller black eyes, but on the tip of its snout was a long and wickedly sharp horn, sitting just behind it was a much smaller horn, almost a bump. Some rode elephants. Behind these were the foot soldiers. These soldiers were well armed considering that they were the primary fighting force. Slung across their backs were an elvish bow and a full quiver of arrows. On their hips, a sword rested. In their hands, a spear with a long and lethal tip.
The sun was already bright, and it was only late morning. The sun did bring with it an advantage, though. It glared off of the armour of the soldiers of the dark fae and into the faces of anyone watching. However, as the sun moved over the horizon, the fae soldier's could not keep up and that advantage was lost to them.
They continued to march for two hours, approaching the boundary for Mikkel and Rose's land. Many could see the Keep in the distance. The Dark King and Dark Queen walked to the front of their soldiers and viewed the Keep closer than any elf had in two hundred years. The Dark King snarled and growled. He could see Mikkel and Rose atop the battlements of the keep, along with the elf twins and Hildi. The Dark King noticed something glinting in the sun and thought that Mikkel had given his bride a large diamond. It never entered his head that it was a dragon tear.
Rose and Mikkel watched from the battlements of the keep as the dark fae stopped their advance. The creatures that they brought were fearsome, to say the least. Many were gathered with her and her mate to witness what could only be the destruction of the dark fae. Mikkel and Moorwyn, along with the elves had some rather unpleasant surprises in store for the enemy that they were about to face.
Rose turned to Fiona and hugged her. "I need you and Wolvgard to go back down into the keep and prepare our clan. The "Others" have already felt the disturbance caused by the dark king and queen. Silka will want to be in the stables with the unicorn. Midnight and Moorwyn are joining us shortly. He is making preparations in the depths where the light fae once resided."
Rose stopped talking as she felt something in the air shift and her skin prickle painfully. The feeling she felt during lightning storms danced across her skin. Swords were drawn and arrows notched as her guard and Arne, as well as Elashor and Meara gathered around her as the air shimmered. Suddenly the battlement and even the courtyard of the keep was full of Light Fae.
Rose gasped as one, a strikingly beautiful female with bright blue hair and purple eyes smote her chest with her fist and bowed. Raising her head, she looked Rose straight in the eye and said, "My Queen." She sighed with what could only be called satisfaction, "Finally, I get to meet you. I have watched you from afar since you were but a child." The female elf's eyes clouded and she hung her head momentarily, before raising it. Rose was startled to see a deep sadness in her eyes. "My Queen, please forgive me for what you endured. Had I known, I would have come with my mate and lived with you instead of just watching." Dropping back down to one knew after having risen, the elf kept her head lowered in shame.
Rose came forward intending to forgive the woman. Raising her hand, she laid it on the female's head and was suddenly sucked into a strong vision. "I said no, Duncan! Our Queen must have every opportunity. She needs to grow into a woman, not die as a child. I know you don't want us to be separated, but you and I have no choice. If we bring her back to our village, the spies that are surely there will kill her. At the very least, she would be harmed. No," she said shaking her head with tears in her eyes, "No. You must be the one. Only you among us have such a strong glamour. She must not know until it is time......." Rose gasped and quickly pulled her hand away. This time, it was Rose who was crying.
"My sweet aunt Florisha, I am so very sorry that you and your mate had to sacrifice so much. For years you had to live apart, lest someone discover the truth and my life be put in danger. I greatly appreciate the sacrifices that you both have made for me. How your heart must have broken to be separated from Duncan for so long. You are a strong woman, Florisha and you will be greatly celebrated when this war is over." Roe gathered the woman up in her arms and hugged her tightly until someone cleared their throat. Looking around, Rose realized that her aunt had brought with her over one thousand light fae warriors.
"How? Where.......?" Rose was so stunned that she stuttered to form the entire question. The twins answered her.
"We are many, Your Majesty. We have waited for this day for centuries. Every since our Elder had a vision of you and your offspring. We knew that this moment would come and that we would need to be able to assist you, as the Elder foresaw." Florisha waved her hands and said, "Behold, the power of this Keep and the Light Fae contain within."
The walls began to glow until they were a blinding white. As Rose struggled to watch, fire flew from the walls. The flames seemed to just appear from nowhere. One particular set of flames were almost as white as the walls of the battlement, and encircled her. Yet, Rose felt no heat from the flames. Feeling the need to act, she reached out into the flames in front of her and placed another hand on the flames encircling her waist. Words began to pour forth from her mouth. Words that Rose had never spoken before but knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that she knew what they meant and what they were.
Wall of Flame
Wall of Fire
Burning Bright
Burning White
Hear My Voice
Heed My Choice
Do My Bidding
Do My Command
Protect My People
Protect This Clan
With a whoosh, a burst of white flame leapt from Rose's hand and landed just shy of the Dark King and Dark Queen. "Hear me Unseelie. You darkness can't help you here. Our Light is too strong, too powerful."
Mikkel looked on in astonishment at the royal couple at their boundary, then back to his mate. As he was contemplating how best to explain what is going on with his mate, he heard a dragon roar and looked toward the sound. Toward the sky. Moorwyn flew through the hot air created by the white hot flames that seemed to be a part of his mate. Mikkel rushed everyone out of the way and the dragon suddenly nose dived into the gathering. Or so he thought. Moorwyn reached down and grabbed Rose in his clawed paws. Mikkel released a shout of fear. Then turning, feeling Midnight lay a hand on his shoulder.
"Be at ease, Mikkel. My mate would never let harm come to your's. After all, she is the reason he was born."
