Alex woke up early the next morning at dawn as he had been ordered. He had lived her for about two weeks, as far as he could guess. He had lost track of time. He rose and donned his clothes for the day, and went outside to begin his daily routine of chores. He went first to the shed in the back of the dwelling. He grabbed his small spade and a cart he used to carry the fruit off the field. He worked from dawn to dusk every day, doing the same exact thing, with one meal a day, no breaks, until well after dark when he was allowed to sleep.
About five hours later, he arrived in the back of the shed to carry in his fourth load that day. He dumped them in a large pile that had been created in the middle of the shed floor.
Obi-Wan, Ferus, and Damar were once again dressed as bounty hunters, using the same gear as before. They traveled through the streets of the city, dust covering their boots. They looked around the city's main square, and Ferus saw the public official he had talked to the day before and pointed him out.
"That's the man I talked to yesterday," Ferus said, nodding to where he stood, the same slave girl at his side. "He's the one who knew about Alex."
Obi-Wan looked to where Ferus was looking. The official looked normal enough. But the slave girl at his side, he recognized, and so did Damar.
"Ahsoka!" she said excitedly, but quietly.
Ferus heard her. "What did you say?"
"That girl with the official," she repeated. "That's Ahsoka Tano. We were together at the Temple."
Obi-Wan nodded. "She was Anakin's apprentice. I knew her well. I have not heard of her in years." He turned to his two companions. "Plans have changed," he announced. "We have get Ahsoka out also. I cannot leave her here anymore than I can leave Alex." They rushed off toward the official and asked where they could find Lunar Zendu.
"He lives on the outskirts of town," the official said. "You can't miss it. It's a large house and there is farmland surrounding it."
While the official was giving them directions, Obi-Wan tried to get Ahsoka's attention. He caught the girl's eye and was relieved to see a fire in her eyes, though it was dimmer than usual. They thanked the official and left, hurrying to find Alex as soon as possible.
The house was very easy to find, as the official had said, although his directions were not the best, they found it anyway. Obi-Wan opened the latch on the gate, letting the group in. There were two young boys playing with sticks in the yard. He pointed them out to the others. They were arguing about who was going to be Obi-Wan Kenobi in a pretend stick/lightsaber duel. He smiled to himself from inside the helmet of the bounty hunter gear he wore. He saw a man walking toward them with an angry look on his face.
"What are you doing here?" he demanded. "Get off my property!"
Obi-Wan spoke up. "Are you Lunar Zendu?" he asked, getting right to the point.
"Who wants to know?" Lunar asked grouchily. He was in no mood for this.
"Obviously, we do," Ferus replied, trying to make his voice sound as menacing as possible.
Apparently, it worked, because Lunar appeared to be slightly shaken. "Well, then, yes. I am Lunar Zendu. What do you want?"
"We understand that you have recently purchased a slave?" Damar asked. She pulled a small datapad off her utility belt and acted as if she were reading a description. "Human male. Light brown hair, brown eyes, about two meters tall?"
Lunar nodded. "What about him?"
"He is wanted for several crimes against the Supreme Ruler of Mandalore, the Duchess Amora. He has robbed her of several valuable and priceless pieces of art, and must pay for his crimes." Ferus told Lunar the made-up facts as if they were as true as could be. "The art has been recovered, but justice must be served. We have been instructed to offer you a large reward for detaining him here long enough for us to catch up with him."
