❨ chapter nine ❩
— CHARITY'S POV
I WAS, IN all honesty, taken back by what just happened. i mean, i didn't not like it. i was just surprised that he kissed me, like right now.
"i-i better get back, they'll be wondering where i am." i slowly got up, slightly still cold, as i removed the blazer from over my shoulders and handed it back to romeo.
i couldn't help but remember why i didn't have the best luck with boys, as in trusting them. my last boyfriend whos name was lucas, whom i had when i was almost turning 14, ended up cheating on me with this random girl he met at a party.
yes, i know what you're thinking. these kids are partying at that young of an age? well yes we were. in my town, the teens always partied, especially after a pageant win. high school parties were sort of the thing that happened every friday night. don't worry most didn't involve any drinking. most.
anyways, so he basically broke my heart, not that much though because i knew he was a bad boyfriend so i was gonna break up with him anyways, but still. lucas just made me realize that lots of guys can't be trusted. which is why i sort of have trust issues with them now.
which is also why i've been slightly shocked at what had just occurred. i'm just not sure about my feelings about romeo yet. i don't want to put myself out there and get hurt again. considering that, he has been very sweet and kind to me. i couldn't see him doing the same.
i was knocked out of my train of though when i heart romeo say, "are you okay charity?" he must have noticed the smile disappear from my face. i didn't mean to seem upset all of a sudden, its just, my thoughts.
"yeah yeah i'm fine." this lie slipped effortlessly from my lips. sort of scary how it did, but i'm not sure if romeo believed it.
romeo gave me a small side smile as i returned it and started to walk away.
once i returned to the backstage dressing room area, my mom, blake and ebony were waiting for me. ebony ran to hug me as soon as i entered the room.
"charity! you did it!" ebony practically screamed in my ears, making me laugh.
"congrats sweetie, you did amazing." my mom smiled and pulled me into a hug as soon as ebony and i were finished ours.
