I woke up to the sound of clacking heels in my apartment building's long hallway along with my phone vibrating continuously. Living in New York until I was 18, now living in the heart of Los Angeles and having a 'loud' childhood, there really aren't a lot of things that can wake me up so easily, except for the annoying sound of heels. I've never been one to wear heels so that's probably why I hate their existence so much. I'm more of a jeans, t-shirt and combat boots type of girl. Even going to the Grammy's for years with my dad, he never once got me into heels.
You'd think being the daughter of Axl Rose, lead singer of Guns 'N Roses, I'd be able to wear whatever I want and have any hair color I want. I got over that phase a long time ago with plenty of other mistakes forever embedded in the public's eye. I'm 25 years old, bright red hair and sleeved with tattoos, just trying to make a name for myself after living as 'fucking Axl Rose's daughter" for my whole childhood and teen years."Sarah!?" Megan yelled in the hallway. Megan Masterson has been my manager for as long as I can remember and she had a very distinctive voice when she was pissed off. My name echoed through the building's old walls as I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes. The light coming in from my windows burned my eyes as I tried to open them wider. "Sarah Rose!"
I looked at my phone to see the large numbers telling me what time it is, along with 13 missed calls from Megan.7:o3 am
I sighed while slowly letting my body fall out of bed. The time made my face pucker in disgust. I slid on a pair of pajama bottoms, my favorite Fender sweater and opened my bedroom door to see my sister, Arizona, pouring orange juice.
"You're in trouble." Arizona sang mockingly, keeping her eyes on the juice filling her cup. I shook my head at her but before I could open my mouth to say anything, Megan barged into the apartment. "Good morning, Megan!"
"Oh, good morning Arizona Maye. How are you?" Megan panted as if she ran throughout the city.
"I'm good. I got promoted and---"
"That's great." Megan interrupted. Arizona laughed, smiling and biting her lip in my direction. Arizona has always loved watching me get in trouble since we're so close in age and I've always been considered the trouble maker."Hi Megs." I said. I sighed obnoxiously and stuck my tongue out at Arizona. Arizona smiled bigger and drank her orange juice. "What's up?"
"What's up! What's up, you ask!?!?" Megan tried to keep her cool by taking in a deep breath and letting it out slowly. "Sarah. Do you remember what we have to do today..."
I walked into the small but decently sized kitchen, keeping my eyes on the floor.
"Why would I need to remember if I have such an amazing agent like you to remind me?" I drank from the orange juice carton and smiled at her as I got a slap in the arm from Arizona. I watched her mouth the word 'gross' and I shrugged a shoulder looking back at Megan.
"Sarah Erin Rose. You have to be kidding me...""Oh, fuck. She used the full name on you!!" Arizona was practically dancing around the kitchen, anticipating Megan's next move.
"Shut up, Ari." I looked at her, still squinting my eyes in the bright light. I looked back at Megan, now tapping her foot. "I'm sorry, Megan. I had a really long night and I know you've been calling me but---" I stopped mid-sentence once Megan held up one hand in the air, the other hand rubbing her head.
"Just go get ready. Please."
"Don't worry. Whatever we are doing today, I'm sure we won't be late!"
"God dammit, Sarah!!!" Megan almost threw her phone at me as I ran back into my bedroom and slammed the door behind me. Megan looked at Arizona, now sitting on the kitchen counter. "She's your sister." Arizona laughed and shrugged her shoulders as she kicked her legs.I lit a cigarette after getting comfortable and adjusted in the giant SUV. Megan got into the car, told the driver where to go and pretended to be busy on her phone. She didn't say anything to me the entire walk to the car and kept her eyes down as I cleared my throat. I took my sunglasses off the top of my head and over my eyes. I watched outside the window as the car pulled away from the curb and into traffic. I could feel the tension rising between us so I nudged her with my elbow.
