It's a good thing my neighbors didn't mind blasting music or frantic running. I was all over the place as I sang along and danced to the music blasting from my stereo. The butterflies in my stomach were even worse as I saw the clock ticking closer and closer to 2pm. I controlled my hands from trembling violently but I gave up once I was done with my makeup. I'm not a makeup artist but I like to think I am pretty good at applying the basics: foundation, powder, a little eyeshadow to bring out the blue in my eyes, eyeliner and mascara.
I can't stand wearing lipstick, which has been like that since I started smoking cigarettes so I opted for my favorite lip balm, Burt's Bees, and tossed it into my purse."Sarah! Let me in already! I'm dying to see what you're wearing!!" Arizona yelled over the music through my bedroom door. I shut off the stereo while yelling back for her to come in. She opened the door and gasped at me. "You look hot!!"
"Yeah?" I asked, nervously tugging at the clothes. I spun around slowly to show off the full outfit I picked: black skinny jeans, a plain white low cut V-neck shirt paired with a black blazer and my favorite black Naturalizer 'Encore' ankle boots. Arizona admired the outfit and nodded her head. I let out a nervous sigh."What do you think of the makeup? Too much?" She came closer to me and inspected the makeup.
"No, I like it. Smokey eye always looks great on you."
"Thank you...Fuck. I'm fucking nervous. Wait. What about my hair?"
"Your hair is fine! Here..." She played with my loose curls, adjusting a few. "There. He's going to be droppin' to his knees, girl!" She said with her perfect southern accent impression.
"Oh, you know it. When I come walkin' by, he won't know what hit 'em!" I copied the accent. We laughed hysterically. I looked at my phone to see it was already 1:56 so I grabbed my purse and threw the phone inside. "Should I go now?""No! Wait until two then go down the stairs like you're not anticipating anything." She pantomimed walking down stairs with her hands on her hips.
"What do I do if I fall down the stairs.."
"There's no 'if'. You will fall but at least you can fall in his arms and play that whole 'Oh no! I twisted my ankle!' Y'know?" She giggled as she played the damsel in distress while we both walked to the front door of our apartment. I shook my head at her as now she favored a pretend broken ankle.
"Bye Ari."
"Don't be dumb..."
"...it's just for fun." I replied as I finished our favorite saying. I hugged her tightly as she wished me luck and pushed me out the door. I played with my hair one last time before quickly making my way down the long staircase. In 25 years of existing on this planet, I don't think I've walked down a flight of stairs with so much caution. I gripped the hand railing tightly as I turned the corner to see Chris with his back to the stairs. The butterflies were now stabbing me repeatedly as he turned around and smiled. I made it successfully down the stairs completely as I looked into his smiling eyes.
"You look beautiful." He smiled as he pecked a kiss on my hand and pulled me into a tight hug.
"You clean up nicely yourself." I said into his black long sleeve dress shirt. I pulled away to check out his sleek dark gray vest and pristine blue jeans. "Not bad at all." I raised an eyebrow in approval. He laughed while taking back his arms from around me. I watched him as he walked to the door and opened it to reveal a silver Lexus parked in front."Ready?" He asked me. I nodded my head excitingly. I praised him with a sly smile as he opened the passenger door for me. I smiled at him as I watched him walk around the car and slide into the driver's side. The sound of soft piano music played on the speakers.
"This is exciting. Where are we going?" I asked, practically jumping like a little kid on the way to Disneyland.
"You'll see..." He whispered. I could definitely get used to hearing his raspy whisper. I sat back into the comfortable leather seat as I watched Chris begin to drive. I remembered my good news and jumped forward.
"Oh, my god! I almost forgot! I'm going to be the musical guest on SNL!" I screamed. I'm surprised I didn't cause Chris to crash the car. He laughed while putting his sunglasses on and dropping his jaw.
"No fucking way!"
"Way! It won't be for another two months but at least I have time to let it sink in."
"I hope I get to be there.""Really?" I bit at my bottom lip with a huge smile and glanced at him. He nodded his head, smiling gently and paying attention to the road.
"There's no way I'm going to miss that." He stopped the car at a red light to reach for my hand. His lips lingered against the delicate skin. The dark Ray Bans caused the location of his eyes to be a secret but I could feel them on me. I licked my lips. The car behind us honked. "Shit." He chuckled and waved to the car.
"This means I also have about a month to finish that song."
"You will."
"I haven't written a song in four years. How do you know I can do it?""Because of that passion I saw. It's what pulled me to you. You have that magnetic force that just draws people into you then you keep them there with your subtle but breathtaking beauty and incredible personality." He talked with one hand pantomiming his words with the other holding the steering wheel. I watched him drive silently. "You okay?" He asked, bringing me back into reality. The smirk that melts my heart curled the corner of his mouth.
"Th-th-thank...you." I stuttered, blinking my eyes uncontrollably. Chris chuckled as he turned to a gate to enter a code then drove the car onto a long stretch of road.
"You're welcome." The smirk stretched into a smile. The car came to a stop. I was still frozen in a state of shock from his compliment. He put the car into park and took off his seatbelt. His sunglasses sit perfectly into his shirt pocket. "Come here." His raspy whisper once again making my legs shake instantly. My pulse quickened and heart began to beat out of my chest when he ran his fingers on my cheek then placed his hands gently on my face. I could feel his lips softly tap mine. I held my breath waiting for him to kiss me. I brought my hands up to his arms, tracing his muscles with my fingers as he flexed. He kissed the corner of my mouth delicately and seductively causing me to close my eyes. My nails dug into the black sleeves in an attempt to bring him even closer but he resisted the temptation. I let go of the air being held in my lungs by an angry sigh. He knew what he was doing to me and it made him chuckle. If it was possible for butterflies to hack away pieces of a person's soul, it was happening to me. I opened my eyes to see his tongue lick his lips. I blinked my eyes to adjust them to meet his stare. His eyes had an intense fire behind them that made my grip on his sleeves sharper. He cleared his throat, bringing me back to reality again. He dropped his hand from my face so I looked at the scenery around us."Where are we?" I asked, confused. I looked back at Chris to see him already smiling at me.
"My house." He looked up at the massive house.
