i sat back in my seat, pencil in hand. it was only the sixth day back, but our english teacher was making us write about our vacations over break. i looked around, and noticed plenty of other kids were busy writing away. some seem deep in thought, others smiling away and silencing their giggles. i chewed on the inside of my lip, moving my leg to the music playing in my earbuds. i didnt want to write about my depressing break, it fucking sucked. i rested my head in my hand, and stared at the smart board in the front of the room, wondering what vix was doing in choir right now. i glanced down at my phone, and smiled as it lit up.

Vix 🖤🔪
hows my favorite boy
doing rn? busy bee?

i rolled my eyed at the girl, though i wasnt annoyed with her. it was as if she read my mind.

Me
english paper :/

maybe i could fake something up.. and theyd never know? except mrs. stein was my neighbor, and shed know very quickly that i was lying. i glanced over at her desk. she was typing away at her computer, eyes never leaving the screen.

Vix 🖤🔪
wack. boo. make smth
up my boy and lmk

i sighed, turning the screen off, and sat back in my seat. i loved her, but god right now she was no help. and i needed help. maybe even a miracle. and it was as if the heavens opened up, and heard me, because mrs. stein stood up, and made her way to the smart board.

"hey, guys?" she give a sweet smile as one by one, everyone looked up at her. "hey! this assignment is going to be due in feb, so please take your time with it." she sat on her stool, and fixed her glasses. "but theres another project i really want you guys to do."

one kid groaned, another sighed dramatically.

"why cant we have it easy in here for once?" a girl asked, obviously annoyed.

mrs. stein ignored the girl, and looked around as she spoke. "project. kind of like an essay, youll be partnered with someone, of my choosing, and youll get to know them. see their life, and compare it to yours. tell me how its different, things you like and dislike, and how in a way, its like yours. now.. the names are in the bowl. hazel, could you walk around with it?"

the girl who spoke before stood, and grabbed the bowl off mrs. steins desk.

"if your name is called, dont pick a name from the bowl." she said, and began walking around. she started at the other side of the room. i groaned quietly and threw my hood over my head.

"cheer up, freckles, no one in heres that bad." reagan said with a snicker. she sat to my left, and i glared at her.

"why cant we pick our partners?" i complained, setting my earbuds on my table. "i only like one person in this class."

she smiled, patting my shoulder. "youll be okay, pumpkin." soon, her name was called by a freshman, he looked across the room shyly at her as she waved with a smile.

"neek-oh? nick-oh? nick-o? how do i say this." i let my head fall to my desk, and sighed.

"its nico." reagan said, and i assumed she pointed at me. "its this cutie right here."

i lifted my head up barely, and looked in the direction to where i heard my name underneath my curls. a boy. pale, sandy blonde hair cocked an eybrow, looked at me, and then smiled.
