"Miss St. Clair, I will ask again: what happened on the night of the Dip?" The impatient man asks again. I can tell he's getting angry as his sweaty red face is too close to mine and the spit is flying into my face.

I shrug.

He really doesn't need to know, does he? I know and he knows that she is gone and it won't bring her back.
"Miss, please try to work with us. It is really important for us to know what happened to your friend."

"Grey, this is so good," Elspeth beckons me from the bonfire, the lighting making her face eerie and dark. I come over to her, my clothes soaked through with sweat. What happened next was all a blur, but I remember kissing Elspethin the water. I push her away and, well, stand there. For those few minutes it was just me and her, frozen in time, while everyone danced around us.
"Shit, Grey," Elspeth whispers, smirking a little.
I spend the rest of the night getting drunk without her, and by the time people start to leave I can barely stand up. I look out into the angry waves, keeping Elspeth's secret so well.
The next morning, a dog walker found her washed up on the shore.

Of course I didn't tell any of this to my interrogator.

"I guess she died, " is what I do say.
