There was a group of people surrounding the entrance into the camp. One actual adult, and about five hundred other kids. The oldest looked about nineteen, while the youngest looked to be eleven or twelve. Most of the kids shoved Eve out of the way and crowded around us asking us lots of questions.
"Did one of you really cause a power outage!?" A few of them asked.
"A power outage?" I asked.
"Does one of you really have lightning powers?"
"Yeah, he does-" I was interrupted by hundreds of kids surrounding him asking random questions. He was helpless in this situation, so I, after a lot of failed attempts, was able to get him out.
"Thanks, man!" He said. I was about to say you're welcome like any nice guy would do, but we were shoved away by Eve.
"Come, The Director wants to see you," Eve said grabbing our arms and dragging us off.
"Who's the director?" I asked. Eve pointed to a man overlooking the whole camp. We were led towards him, Eve not allowing us to walk on our own.
"Welcome children," The Director said taking off his sunglasses. "I hope Eve has filled you in on why you are here." Looking back at Eve she repeatedly facepalmed herself. I was thinking she was gonna be in trouble, so I happily told him.
"Not at all!" I said giving a smug look. She gave me a stare that could kill, thankfully, that wasn't a power she had.
"Eve, why must you make me do more work. Alright, I am going to be blunt, we need your help to help stop a war."
"Wait, what?!" I asked.
"Eve this is why you explain things before bringing them here!" He took a deep breath and wiped some sweat off of his shoulder. "Our camp is filled with heroes like you. This camp is populated with so many unique powers that we knew someone would eventually go evil. We were unable to stop it, and we need your help to make sure nobody else goes evil."
"And how the heck do you want us to do that? Go on some magical quest to save the world? That is very cliche!"
"Whatever the Fountain of Fortune says to do is what you guys will do. Well, the kids sometimes call it the Fountain of Damnation."
"My God. We need a bit to think," I said pacing back and forth. Sam coughed a bit, and all of us were staring at him.
"Umm, I wanna help!" Sam said looking directly at the director. "If people are dying, I wanna make sure that never happens again!" I looked in shock. This kid was actually signing up for his death! The Director looked at him and smiled. He walked over to Sam and poked his chest. Smoke surrounded him and went right into the point where The Director poked him.
"You are now a member of the resistance. We train and live in this camp so let your mothers know you'll be staying." The Director said handing him a phone.
"That won't be necessary, sir," Sam said taking a deep breath. "My mom is dead." Sam fiddled with his fingers and The Director cursed under his breath. He looked at me, waiting for an answer. I looked back at Sam and took a deep breath.
"We have a high chance of dying anyway. Why not speed it up a little bit." I said reaching for the phone The Director originally gave to Sam. It was at this point I remembered I had a cellphone, and awkwardly gave it back to The Director. When I looked at the number of notifications I had, I jumped backward in shock. My phone read: 900 Messages from, Mom. 300 Missed Calls from, Mom. Eve took a peek and also jumped back in shock. I called her and explained my situation, and shockingly, my mom understood.
"Don't worry sweetie, I understand. You better call me once a day!" She said.
"Thanks, mum, bye," I said while hanging up the phone. I put my cell back in my pocket and The Director led us to the fountain. For some reason, he called everyone over.
"Hello, rebels! We are here now to welcome two new members into the camp! Please welcome Sam," The Director looked at Sam, who shrugged. "Uhh, No-Last-Name and uh," He looked at me for the answer.
"John Ellis," I said looking at my shoes.
"John Ellis!" The whole camp roared in excitement which I assumed was for us.
"Now to the next thing! This is tradition, anytime a new member joins, we respond with a tournament! It will take place tomorrow morning! I hope you kids have great powers, you are gonna need them." I ignored the very ominous and kinda creepy warning from The Director and looked at Eve and Sam. Eve was jumping with joy while Sam looked at his hands and shivered. There was a huge uproar from the audience as The Director called everyone to be silent.
"Now before we all sleep, would Sam come on up?" The Director said helping Sam up onto the podium. Sam looked confused until The Director spoke once again.
"May we have a demonstration of your powers?" The Director asked.
"Uhh, okay?" Sam said in a tone, it felt like he was questioning whether that was a good idea. He lifted his hands in the air and lightning shot out causing me to almost go blind. He let his hands down and was given a tremendous uproar, the assembly was over and Eve led us to our cabins. The other kids tried to chase after us but The Director held them off. Eve led us to her bunk, which was awkward, to say the least, but as soon as we landed on the bed, we passed out.
