Old pain

Late that night I heard someone knocking on the door. I got up and made my way to the door then opened it. On the other side I saw Tenko, he had been crying. "Come in" I said leading him to my kitchen. I started making some jasmine tea while asking "what's on your mind"? "I had a nightmare about my father" he replied his voice course. "Tenya said you might have some experience with it" he continued. I set down a cup saying "well, I kinda do but. Not the same as you but still" he took a sip and asked me "can I ask what"? I let out a sigh and said "my family made me take their lives to save the kingdom". "That's rough" Teko said after a second. "Do you have any advice" he asked after a minute. "Don't forget him. You'll never truly get over it but, someday you may make peace with it. But you can't remember them in any way that wasn't true. It will only cause you pain. Remember both the good the bad and the inbetween" I said. It was the only piece of advice I could give to him. He looked down at his lap a fake smile on his lips "thank you Erathine". "I hope you come to piece with it, although I get it if you can't. Not everyone can look to their past and say their happy. I certainly can't. But I hope you do some day. You've grown on me kid. Not many can say I truly care for them" with that he remained silent. In thought. I led him to his room then went back to Eri. As I lay next to her she latched onto my torso. I felt a pang in my heart and almost jumped. Man I gotta get used to emotions again.
