11 // Dani
I scratch my head with my pencil. What did Socrates say about the purpose of philosophy? I don't know. Something about knowing that you don't know is one of the best things ever.
I throw my notebook onto my desk and lay in my bed. I stare at the ceiling. Living with my best buds is cool, but it calls for a rent. Between homework to stay in school and a job to stay alive, I always finish exhausted. I now cherish sleep like never before. Sleep is divine.
My eyes move to Champ, who starts barking when my phone goes off. It's probably one of the guys calling me. I reluctantly leave my bed and drag my feet towards my desk. I pick up my phone and see that it's Pristina calling me.
"Hello?" I say.
"Dani, it's me," she tells me, in a chocked voice. I barely heard her; music covers her voice.
"Where are you?" I ask.
"In a club. Do you know Pulse 120?"
"Yeah."
"Could you come get me?"
"Why?"
She sighs, "Can you or not?"
"Yeah, I can. Just wait a few minutes."
Pris hangs up. She didn't sound like herself - more worried. I slide in a pair of jeans, throw a jacket on and start moving. My teeth chatter; I wasn't expecting it to be this cold outside. I'm happy I took my jacket but I should have grabbed a sweater as well.
Pulse 120 is not very far from where I am. It's only about five streets away. I've been there before, with my friends. It's not all that, just a small club really. I wonder what happened there for Pris to call me like that. I hope nothing terrible but my mind keeps imagining the worst.
I get in, thanks to my connections with the bouncer. He's the older brother of one of my friends. I'm always very lucky to know people like that. Surprisingly, Blue gets me into most of the establishments I'm interested in. She knows a hella people around this area.
Now, I'm inside, but have no clue where she is. I text her and wait for her reply, standing on the side of the entry's door. It's mildly crowded, lights flashing back in forth as people dance. An odor of alcohol is inevitable. I turn my head to the side and I perceive, way in the back, someone exchanging a packet with someone else. That's what worries me most.
I tap my fingers to the beat of the music. My phone vibrates. I look down and Pris tells me she's in the bathroom area. I start walking there. She said she was going to see a friend. I have no clue who that friend is, if it's not Arianna. They better not have hurt Pris. I don't usually fight, but that would get me closer than ever to throwing a punch.
I push the women's bathroom door open and she's sitting there, in a corner. A hand in her hair. She looks up at me, hearing the sound of the door. Her make-up is soaked in her tears.
"Hey," I whisper.
Pris doesn't even look at me and replies, "Can we just leave?"
I want to ask her so many questions but it's not the right moment. I get closer to her and pull her up. I take her hand and lead her out. On my way towards the door, someone intercepts me. It's Kelly. I sigh, Pristina following just behind me.
"Oh, hey Dani," Kelly winks at me, trying to move in for a hug. "I didn't know you'd be here - with her."
Her expression changes at the view of Pris. She takes on a possessive look and then glares back at me. We're not even together. I don't see why Pris would matter.
