January 9th. 8:52am.
Dear Diary...
It's the first day back at Silver Falls High after what seemed like a very long winter break. The first day back at school is always just a little bit hectic. Everyone rushing around to find their friends and catch up with each other. Crowds of kids of all ages gathered in clumps around lockers and at the edge of the toilets, waltzing around the halls laughing and sharing their wintry stories with one another. However, there's only one person I'm interested in catching up with.
In one of the white-painted halls, there stands forty or so red lockers in a straight row; twenty on either side of the hall. Standing next to one of the lockers near the middle, is a young girl. She's round about the same height as I am, give or take an inch or two, very pretty. Her is Remiula Wolff, my best friend. She has gorgeous dark brown hair, light blue eyes and porcelain-pale skin. She has on a red and black striped jumper which has a white kitty in the middle with a white tank-top underneath, a black side belt, and denim jeans. She also has odd shoes on, as always. Remi never did like to fit in much.
As she picks up a couple of books from her locker, I tap her on the shoulder lightly. Smiling, she turns around to face me. I smile as her arms wrap around me in a tight embrace. "Remi!" I squeal, although we'd called each other pretty much every day during Christmas, it's just not the same. "I missed you." She pulls away from the hug and places her hands on my shoulders, looking me in the eyes, a huge grin plastered on her pretty face.
"I missed you too, Lex." Remi giggles. "Did you have a good Christmas? I'm so angry that we couldn't spend it together this year! I hate my Mom or making me go on holiday with her."
I hug Remi again tightly, squeezing her ever so slightly. "Don't worry about it, you silly," I whisper. "It's perfectly fine. I understand."
"You're so awesome. Thank you for not being mad, I was so worried you would be." She frowns.
"You're so odd," I laugh. "Of course I wouldn't be mad! It's not like you could help it. I know you would have stayed if you could have. It's no biggie."
"Hey! I am not odd!" She playfully hits me on the shoulder and laughs, throwing her head back like a small child, before clearing her throat and saying, "I have something for you, though. I bought it for you while I was over in Amsterdam." She opens her locker and picks up a small box. It's a pink box with a pink and white ribbon tied ontop of it.
"You didn't have to get me anything!" I gasp, widening my eyes. "But thank you," I take the box off her and slowly pull the ribbon so it comes undone - I tie it around my arm so I wouldn't lose it - and slowly lift off the lid. I almost drop it when I gaze upon the gorgeous necklace that lays inside. "Oh my gosh, Remi!" I squeak. "You really shouldn't have, you goon!" I take the necklace out of the box and hold it out in front of us.
I stare at the pendant in awe as the stunning, pink heart-shaped gemstone dangles before us, the lights above reflecting off it, making patterns dance on our lockers. "Do you like it?" She asks, the gem reflecting in her blue eyes.
"Like it? Absolutely not. Remiula, I love it! It's so beautiful!" I chime, my face beaming brightly. I drop the stone back in the box gently and wrap my arms tightly around her neck. "Thank you, thank you so much! You're the best!"
"You're welcome, Lexi," She smiles as she hugs me back. "I'm really glad you like it." She hugs me tighter. "Want to put it on?"
"Heck yeah!" I pick up the necklace by its chain and hand it to her, turning around so she can fasten it around my neck. "It's so pretty." I whisper, admiring the gorgeous stone. "Thank you, Remi."
She smiles, her eyes glistening. "We better head off to class now."
"Okay," I reply, placing the empty box in my bag and linking my arm through hers. "Let's go!" We begin walking to class, a huge grin plastered on my face as I look down and admire my pendant; the best Christmas gift I've ever gotten.
