Love in the heart of the games

chapter 29

Cato's POV

"AHH! Cato! Cato! Help me! Cato!" I heard Cally yell desperately. I turned around in circles and finally saw her. The person hurting her was no surprise though. Presdient Snow himself. I tried to run to her but my feet wouldn't let me. "Cato Please! Help me!." Then I could move again and I was running towards her but stopped dead in my tracks when Snow pulled out a needle the size of my pointer finger filled with a deep purple liquid and jabbed her in the arm with it. She stopped moving almost instantly and I saw a single tear fal from her cheek before the heaving of her breath stopped. I ran at Snow and tried to tackle him but I ran right through him. I fell to my knees next to my sister and cried. I don't know when but at some point I passed out.

When I woke up I saw Katniss batting at her lags and crying then passing out. A couple hours later VClove jumped in to the lake and started splasheing air. "Oh shut up lavender!" Lavender. The girl that lived in between mine an Cloves houses. It was Clove's best friend. Even more than Cally. She had blonde hair and her eyes were a different color almost every time I saw her. Most the time though they were a greenish gray color. Her hair was very curly for someone in District 2.

She stopped splashing then eventually passed out next to Marvel. Katniss got up about then and walked over to me. "How long was I passed out?" She asked me. "I don't know. I just got up too." "Oh," She said. "Hey Cato? I think I want to go hunting? I feel bad but can I use Glimmer's bow?" I nodded. "Promisse me you'll come back Katniss? Please?" I asked. Last time she 'hunted' I almost thought she wouldn't come back. She hesitated but finally said, "Cato, I can't have you take care of me the whole time. I'm sorry. I-" I cut her off. "Please Katniss I want to make sure your okay. I can't stay here without knowing your okay. I will flip out and-" she cut me off this time, "No you won't Cato I know you won't. If it makes you feel better we can meet up every other day. " she whispered. I had to think. How am I supposed to sneak away. Neither Clove nor Marvel will let me out of their sight. Marvel likes Katniss and Clove hates her. "I can try but I probably won't be able to sneak away." She nodded. "I'm sorry Cato. I just can't make you take care of me." she gave me a sad smile and kissed me on the cheek. Then she turned and started to walk away.

It's been 3 hours since Katniss has left. It's now dark outside and Marvel and Clove are asleep cuddled together. I'm jealous of them. They have each other right there when the love of my life is out in the woods created by people that want us to die. Did I mention there are people in that woods that desperately want her dead? Well yea There is that too. I can't sleep. My eyes aren't heavy I'm not tired and I'm staring up at the Gamemaker made sky. Soon the anthem started to play and the Capitol seal shines brightly above me. Only Glimmer's face appears in the sky tonight. I sigh in relief. A cannon booms and the girl from 10's face shows up. The anthem finishes and the Capitol seal is shown again them the sky goes black.

It has been about an hour since the death show was in the sky,and I still wasn't even remotely tired. That's weird to me but I understand it because I'm worried about Katmniss. I know we have been in the arena for atleast 3 days. Katniss was here for 2. GAH! Cato! You can't get all gushy and lovey-dovey or whatever they call it while you in the arena! I just wish that more than one victor could be crowned. Then if I die for Katniss I won't be seen as a disgrace in District 2.

But that will never happen. It has now been five hours since katniss left and almost twenty-four hours since I have slept not counting passing out from the tracker-jacker stings.

I eventually drift off to sleep.

I wake up to to the sound of 2 cannons and Marvel nowhere to be found. Clove jolts awake and sits up right after me. "Where's Marvel?" We say in unison. "I don't know I got up literally 1 minute before you." I tell her. She gets up and walks away andI get up and follow her. "Where are you going?" I ask trying to catch up. For a girl with small legs she sure does walk fast. "where are we going?" I asked. " I'm going to find Marvel. I don't know about you." She said sourly. I scrunched up my face at this. "Why he is probably dead?" I asked. He probably is. We heard two cannons. Not one, two. " You don't know that! he could have just killed two people!" I just realized Peeta is still at camp with Kaynnsie.  

We walk through the woods for about five miutes then we see Marvel's net he set up with only 2 ropes connected instead of four. I see random flowers scattered around in a trail and I follow them until I see Rue. And Katniss. Katniss starts singing to Rue. i then notice she has a gaping bleeding whole in her stomach. I see Clove crinched when she sees the wound. I looked to her left and see a bloody spear.  Katniss is in the middle of her song when it catches my attention, Deep in the meadow, hidden far away, a cloak of leaves a moonbeam ray. Lay down your head and close your eyes. And when again they open the sun will rise. Here its safe and here it's warm. Here your dreams are sweet, and tomorrow brings them true. Here the daisies protect you from every harm. Here is the place where I love you. 

You can tell she is gone by then but Katniss just keeps singing. She doesn't even realize we are here.  She closes her eyes and zips her jacket then  lookes to her right. I follow her gaze and see someone I assume is Marvel because of the spear. She then turns around crying- I just realized this-and gets a handfull  of flowers. She braids them into her hair and puts them around her. She puts Rue's hands over where the wound was and curls them around more of the white flowers and finds a purple flower and puts it in the middle of the others.  She walks over to the person and yanks the arrow out of their neck. when she does this she has to lift the persons head and I could see that it was Marvel. When she finally gets it off she throws his head back down and walks away. 

I can hear her sobs as she walks. She finally stops when she hears the trumpets of the announcer blare. "Attention tributes! Attention. The usual rule that only one can be victor has been...altered. There can be 2 victors as long as they are one male and one female. They will also be married after the victory tour. I repeat, there may be two victors as long as there is one male and one female. They shall be married after they emerge victors after the victory tour. Thank you, that is all." I immediatley break out in a huge grin.

I can go home with Katniss.
