I like the possibility of these two being a cute pairing, and I can't explain why...
Pink Pearl was Pink Diamond's original Pearl before she was taken away by White Diamond shortly after the poor Pearls' eye was broken by one of Pink Diamond's destructive screams during a tantrum she had. After Pink Pearl was mind controlled by White, she was unknowingly replaced; by a Pearl who would do anything for her Diamond, and a perfectly cut and playful Gem named Spinel.
It would be 2,000 years before spinel was left behind, just as the Pink Pearl was...
Spinel was made as a little playmate for Pink Diamond, as Pink Pearl would do what both Pearl and Spinel did- act as a servant, and play games with her Diamond.
Spinel had the unique ability to stretch and twist her body in all sorts of ways- it wasn't painful for her at all, and only did it to entertain her Diamond. There was a special garden made as a place for Pink Diamond and spinel to play in, as they would spend hours in there, playing games, goofing around, on top of other things.
Spinel was made to be Pink's best friend, and she believed that they were friends, until she was left behind...
Shortly after it was announced that Pink diamond would get her own colony, Spinel was ecstatic.
Pink's new colony would be a brand new place for them to play! Or, that's what she thought..
Just before Pink walked to the Warp Pad, Spinel started to follow her. Pink noticed this, and decided to play one more game with her. One that Spinel would eventually loose.
"Here in the garden, let's play a game. I'll show you how it's done. Here in the garden, stand very still..." Pink instructed in a singsong voice.
"This'll be so much fun!" Spinel exclaimed, eager to play this "game".
when Pink Diamond stepped on the Warp Pad and teleported away, Spinel stood there, smiling.
That was the last time Spinel would ever see her Diamond.
Spinel stood there, waiting for her Diamond to return.
It would take her 6,000 years to realize that it was just a trick to leave her behind for good...

Pink Pearl was under White's mind control for 8,000 years with no memory of what happened during all that time.
Spinel was abandoned by Pink Diamond, who she thought was her best friend, for 6,000 years.
Why do I ship them?
Well, they were both hurt by Pink Diamond.
They could help each other heal from the damage done by Pink Diamond...
I just think that this pairing is just really cute and all...
