Why am I avoiding him anyway? It's not like I'm scared or anything. I straighten my skirt and run my hand through my hair. I try and walk out as casually as I could from the alleyway behind the school.
Thud!
You're kidding me. I look up to see the new kid cowering over me, again. This time he lets out his hand and tries to help me up. I ignore it and pull myself up. I gather my books and try and walk away as fast as possible.
"Stop," he says grabbing my arm.
Let alone the pounding in my chest, I try to remove my hand from his grip but he is much stronger than he looks.
"Sorry," he apologizes before letting go of my arm and walking off faster than he came around.
As for me, my mouth is slightly gaping. I quickly shut it and walk home as fast as I could.
In all honesty, I can't stop thinking about what happened. I shuffle around for my keys and unlock the door. As I slip off my shoes, I hear Umma humming in the kitchen. I skip over and greet her. Maybe if I treat her with more respect, she'll loosen up and let me 'sleepover at Yuni's house.'
"Annyeong, Umma," I chirp. She smiles firmly and I walk over and give her a kiss on the forehead. "Would you like me to cut the salad?"
"Please do," she asserts.
I open the fridge and gather all the vegetables. Then, I wash them and cut them. I put them into the salad bowl and set up the table.
Once everything is set, Umma sits down with my favorite, soft tofu stew. I take a whiff and Umma sits across from me.
"Mmm, Umma, it smells delicious," I grin.
Umma simply nods her head and we begin eating.
"Yuni invited me tonight, you know, for a sleepover," I easily lie, living with Umma; I've mastered the art of getting away with things.
"Have you promised your attendance?" she purses her lips.
"Yes, I've 'promised my attendance,'" I roll my eyes putting up air-quotes.
"Why would you do that? I clearly told you yesterday that you can't be out past 10," she folds her arms across her chest.
"I told them I'd be going before you said that," I lie again.
"Well, too bad. Don't even think about leaving," she warns.
"What's the point of a curfew if I can't even leave the house?" I throw my hands up in frustration. I huff and stomp up the stairs.
I grab my phone and text Yuni that the sleepover is off, five minutes later she calls me. "What do you mean the sleepover is off?!" she screams as soon as I hit the glowing green answer button.
"Umma won't let me sleepover, I'm going to have to wait until she checks on me at 10 o'clock before I can go anywhere."
"Wait the party starts at nine, you're going to be late," Yuni points out.
"I know, whatever I'll tell Chanyeol to pick me up, just go with Minny," I advise. "I'll meet you there around 10."
"Ugh, try and get there, okay?" Yuni says.
"I'll try my best, bye," I say hanging up.
My phone starts ringing and I go to pick it up.
"Hello?" I say to the other end even though I know its Chanyeol Oppa.
"So are you going to drive yourself?" he cuts to the point.
"I don't know, Umma won't let me sleepover at Yuni's, I'm going to have to sneak out," I frown.
