Leigh sighed. "I really hate leaving," she said, crossing her arms and looking down.

"It's only for three months; we've gone longer without each other," Kevin responded calmly, looking up from what he was cooking. Leigh stepped over to him.

"You're supposed to sift that," she said.

"Oh," Kevin said, looking down in surprise.

Leigh laughed. "That's why I don't like to leave you," she said. "I simply don't know how you survive without me."

"Barely," Kevin replied.

Leigh giggled. "Well," she said, "I think we should spend some time together in a remote cottage or something for a little while when I return."

Kevin nodded. "Some time alone would be nice," he agreed. "It could be some place beside a waterfall or something."

Leigh nodded. "That sounds good," she said. "Although it would have to be a ways away from the waterfall, because otherwise the waterfall would create a roar that would be too loud to handle."

Kevin nodded. "You're right," he agreed. "Anyway, back to the topic at hand. How much of your trip will get paid for by the people you work for?"

"Most of it," Leigh replied. "I'll buy my own food."

"Well," Kevin said, "then you should go to the bank soon, to get some money transferred. You're going to another country, and they might not always take American money."

"Okay, I'll do that soon," Leigh said.

_

One week later, Leigh was in Canada. She was working with some people who had the job of accepting people into college or turning them away, and she had to travel for it. This was spring, which was the beginning of the busiest time of year for her. She would have to travel several more times over the summer, unless something happened so that she couldn't.

One morning, standing in her hotel room, Leigh felt sudden nausea, and she rushed to the bathroom, throwing up.

She stood shakily, wiping her mouth with a tissue. She then went to get a drink to get rid of the taste, all the while wondering what would have caused her to have to throw up.

Leigh got sick a few more times, but she wasn't sick; that much was confirmed by the doctor. She was very puzzled.

One day, while talking on the phone with a friend, she mentioned her plight. The friend gasped. "Leigh, you need to go to the pharmacy," she said. "Buy exactly what I say, then do exactly what I say. You're thinking of this as a bad thing, but it might not be bad."

_

Later that day, Leigh paced around her hotel room. How was she going to explain this to Kevin? She was so stressed.

He might think she had cheated, and she couldn't prove she hadn't. The timing for this was just plain unfortunate.

One thing was for certain: this was not the type of thing that you said over the phone. However, she needed to tell him soon. She couldn't wait until she got back; it was still a little bit over two months.

Leigh eventually sat down, realizing what she needed to do. She got out a sheet of paper, and a pencil. She wrote a letter, put it in an envelope, and mailed it later that day.

The note would tell Kevin everything. Hopefully, he'd take it well.

_

Kevin was preparing to go to a concert when he decided to check the mail. It was good that he did, because there was a letter from Leigh.

Kevin opened it, and the information inside filled him with both immeasurable joy, and horror.

My Dearest Kevin,

I started getting really sick recently, and I could not, for the life of me, figure out why. Following the advice of a friend, I decided to try something.

It turns out I'm pregnant. I know we weren't really trying, but, well, no form of pregnancy prevention is perfect.

I hope you won't assume that I cheated. I imagine that it must have happened just before I left.

It's kind of amusing. We were sure we could both relax a bit when I got back. We could go on vacation for a week or two, then come home for a few days before tour, and watch that documentary you've been wanting to watch about real-life alchemists.  Instead, we have to deal with being about to have a baby.

But, everything should be fine. We'll be fine. Because we know how to deal with things. I just hope that we'll be good parents.

Love, Leigh

Kevin stared at the letter, then squealed like a little girl. He was excited for the baby. It made perfect sense to him that Leigh had accidentally gotten pregnant. It was inconvenient, but it was really just a happy accident. A very happy accident.

_

Kevin called Leigh while on his way to the concert. She gave him permission to tell the fans, so he told them very eagerly. They were happy, and the others were happy for him, although they felt bad about the upcoming tour. They agreed that they would have Superfruit and Kirstin go on tour together. They would perform at the same concerts, alternating. That way, Kevin could stay home.

It was good that he got to stay home, because he could take care of Leigh. They didn't have any real issues, but he had to do a lot for her. Although honestly, the worst part of the whole thing was probably when he walked into the kitchen at around seven, and found Leigh eating the unholy combination of bread, mashed potatoes, whipped cream, and syrup

He gagged, and started to take the plate away. Leigh snatched it back. "No," she said. "This child, that you put in me, wanted this. Now let us eat in peace, or so help me!"

"Okay," Kevin said, walking away. He could eat later, maybe.

_

After the child was born, Kevin asked his band mates to come to the baby shower. It was a little girl, who they named Olivia.

When he asked them, Kirstin perked up. "Yes, I'm sure all of us would love to go," she said excitedly.

"Uhhmmm," Mitch said, but Kirstin clapped her hand over his mouth.

"Okay," Kevin said, laughing. "Well, I'll see you then."

He walked out of the room, and heard Kirstin saying to Mitch, "Oh, come on, it's a birthday party!"

"I hate kids, and I hate parties," Mitch grumbled.

"You will be a part of this kid's life," Kirstin informed him.

Kevin laughed again, heading out of the building. He went home quickly, and spent the rest of the afternoon cuddling with Leigh and Olivia.

I hope you enjoyed this first chapter of my first ever oneshot book! I'll try to upload often.

Let me know if you have prompts! They have to be simply an idea (like this--a letter changes everything), and have ten words to use.
