Raine puffed out a cold breath, a shiver running through her small, damp body. She halted her bike by the wall, quickly hopping off, slinging her bag over her shoulder. The girl abandoned her bike, running over to a spot on the wall not too far off from where she had stopped her bike.
There, sitting with his legs outstretched, face upset, was a teenage boy, around her age. A small, lopsided smile found its way onto her face at the sight of him. "Yo, Fang," the boy greeted without looking up.
"Hey, Adolas," she smiled, sliding down the wall into a sitting position beside him. He didn't so much as nod in acknowledgement to her words, but her smile didn't't disappear. "So, what'd you do this time?" she snickered, opening her backpack and taking out an apple, handing it to him without glancing at him.
"You couldn't have made some talk before getting to the point?" the boy accepted the apple, to which Raine smiled. He still had the strength to talk casually, and the teeth to chew an apple. She supposed that was good.
"Hey, you dragged me away from my precious algebra homework. I have to get back to it, so I gotta make it quick, right?" Raine grinned at him, tone and eyes glittering with amusement. He turned to her with a playful glare, aggressively munching on the apple. She let out an airy laugh.
Adolas turned his gaze forward again, grumbling. "I had a run-in with some older guys."
Raine stopped laughing at that, looking at him with slight confusion. "You handled them, though, right, Adolas?"
Adolas could handle a couple of older guys in a scuffle. He was only fourteen, but he'd had his fair share of fisticuffs, many with people bigger than him. She had faith that he could handle himself.
He scoffed. "Who do you think I am, some loser boy? Of course I handled them."
"Then why're you sitting here, sulking? In the pouring rain, too," she pointed out, stretching out her legs. "And why'd you call me out?" she wondered after a moment, placing a finger to her chin. The girl ignored the cold that creeped up on her, pushing it away. Adolas had called her out, and she didn't leave her friends hanging. Not like she had.
Adolas eyed her suspiciously. "You're cold."
"And you're depressed."
Adolas merely rolled his yellow eyes at that. "Nothing too big. Just didn't manage to get the money, is all," he grunted. Raine had a feeling that there was more to the story, but she didn't push it. Instead, she reached out to Adolas. The moment her skin came into contact with his, she felt warmth pool into her. She sighed from the relief of the heat.
Adolas' lips quirked upwards at the small, barely audible sound. But Raine couldn't see that.
After a few minutes, Adolas stood, sliding his hand loosely into hers. When she looked at him with confusion, he answered with a soft smile. "Come on. You're gonna catch a cold."

How did you like the prologue?🥺. Wasn't as short and interesting as I'd like it, and I might rewrite it in he future, but for now it remains this.
I really do hope I can write this story properly.
Side note: I put the video in the video thing because I really enjoyed that YT video, has nothing to do with the book whatsoever and I'll probably do this with every chapter. :)
