Prompt: Who is your favorite PJO/HOO character? They can be major or minor, girl or boy, narrator or spectator; the only requirement is that they are a canon character. Make sure it's someone who makes your heart flutter while you read something concerning them, someone who you would practically cry over if they died...and kill them. This can be from sickness, battle, old age...literally anything. It can be an AU or set in canon. It can be in their POV, an onlooker's POV, or even third person. Anything you want to illustrate an utterly heartbreaking death of your favorite character.
Deadline: Wednesday, January 22nd, 2020 at 12:00 PM EST
Guidelines:
- Double, triple, or even quadruple check your grammar. This includes misspelled words, improper capitalization, punctuation issues, and misuse of homophones. There's nothing worse than reading a story that's actually pretty good, but being halted every few words because you have to interpret a typo or a strangely worded sentence.
- Try not to rush. You will be given a full week to write out your submission, so use that wisely. On the other hand, don't submit your story late. This will dock points.
- No smut. You can have steamy makeouts or the aftermath of a "fun night" but, please, no actual sex scenes.
- Try to keep the swearing to a minimum and NO homophobic or racial slurs.
- If you use dialogue (which you probably should; it really carries stories along) make it realistic. For example, nobody talks the way they text. Also, if a character is shrieking with frustration or laughing with giddy, don't type out "Argh!" or "Hahahaha!" Signify this with a dialogue tag.
- Give me a creative title. I want to have an idea of what I'm reading, or maybe think I know what I'm reading only to be shaken to the core with a groundbreaking plot twist.
- Speaking of plot twists, use them sparingly. Don't use a cringe-worthy amount that confuses the reader more than it entertains them.
Things you will be judged on:
- Grammar: This category is to determine your understanding of basic English rules. Things such as typos, misused words, and wrongly placed punctuation will dock points. You will be ranked 1-10 in this category.
- Plotline: This category is to determine your theoretical writing skills. Do you have the ability to string together a fulfilling introduction and conclusion with plenty of drama and/or action in the middle? The better I see you do, the higher the number of points you will score. You will be ranked 1-10 in this category.
- Creativity: This category is to determine if you have the capability to come up with an original idea no one has really seen before. Some people may say that everything has already been done, but I disagree. The more unique your plot is, the better you will score. You will be ranked 1-10 in this category.
- Timing: This category is nothing but a signifier of if you turned your submission in on time. If you have posted your story before the deadline, you will receive a full 10 points. Every 24 hours after the deadline that goes by where you haven't submitted your story, you will lose two points.
Total score: All the amounts from each category will be added together to give you your own score. I will release the rankings the day before the next prompt is released, which will be two weeks from now. There may be ties. The bottom 3 will be eliminated.
