WHEN NARUTO AWOKE HE AROSE TO THE SMELL OF FRESHLY COOKED BACON that made his mouth water. He was in such a daze that he didn't recognize the apartment he was in before the memories of him finally moving out of the orphanage rushed into his mind. From his right was a blanket with an imprint of Shion, but all around them were blankets made into a giant fortress. It was well crafted, with kunai and wires that held up parts of the blankets to the ceiling.
Naruto felt a smile creep up onto his face as he rushed out of the opening of the fort, spotting a plate of food right at the entrance. Bacon with ten pancakes stacked. On the top was a design made from whipped cream and sprinkles that was a very impressive replica of his own face. He remembered again that Shion was a very talented artist before he looked around for said girl and saw nobody. He felt a brush of loneliness, realizing that he must have missed her before her mission. Just as the thought ran across his mind, Shion tapped his head hard enough to make him nearly fall over.
"Boo!" Shion shouted, and he screamed. "What kind of ninja are you? You gotta sense out the area, Naruto!"
His face turned red as he pointed his finger at her. "I knew you were there all along, dattebayo!"
Shion grinned again, kneeling beside him to steal one of his bacon strips. He gave her a scowl. "What'cha looking at? Boy, I made it!" Still, Shion's smile was gentle as Naruto chewed the take out she had gotten early that morning and slapped on a plate. She even went the extra mile and put dishes in the sink to make it look as if she cooked it.
"You're leaving to your mission, dattebayo?" Naruto glanced at her forehead protector with a frown, as if he was jealous that his forehead was bare. She tapped his head with a sweet smile.
"I wouldn't be jealous. Suna is boiling and I hear they don't eat ramen there," she whispered as if it were a grand conspiracy. Naruto looked appalled by the news, his mouth dropping.
"Then what do they eat?" Naruto's question made the Genin smile.
"They have a strong diet on scorpions they pull straight from the sand," she told him, and he looked sick. "Anyway. Don't worry about Suna. I will be back in no time. How are you going to spend the rest of your day?"
Naruto grinned, scratching his chin as if he had a stubble that bothered him. Shion, however, noticed that his scrawny ass was unlikely to grow up anytime soon. "I was gonna train, dattebayo!"
"Train?" Shion felt a moment of pride as she stared at the boy who finally took something seriously. Then, she remembered that she'd be gone for a while and a rush of worry finally settled into her gut. "Wh-What are you gonna work on?"
"I am going to walk on water, dattebayo!" Naruto exclaimed, having seen Shion do exactly that recently.
Oh gods, he's gonna drown himself. "Naruto," she said, but he interpreted that.
