Have you wondered if it has a meaning to actually be the theme song?
I do.
Let's take the first verse.
Carry on my wayward son

It doesn't seem to happen any meaning. But let's see the second verse.
Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond the illusion
I was soaring ever higher, but I flew too high
Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreamin', I can hear them say
Doesn't it seem like God is saying these words? I mean, he decided to mingle among the humans and stay on Earth because Heaven is just messed up.
The noise and confusion talk about Heaven. God got a glimpse beyond the illusion of supernatural entities and he decided to create human beings.
He flew too high - he created too many of them
Blind man - he didn't expect what the future would be like
Mad man - I haven't watched Season 15 but I know that Team Free Will is hunting God.
And the following will confirm my theory....
Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, it surely means that I don't know
On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed about I'm like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune, but I hear the voices say
He was masquerading as a writer and pretended to be a Prophet of the Lord.
He was playing charades on Earth. He was pretending to be someone he wasn't. He hid the fact that he was God.
Claim to be a wise man - his ego
Stormy sea of moving emotions - pretty simple. Human emotion are complicated
Carry on, you will always remember
Carry on, nothing equals the splendor
Now your life's no longer empty
Surely heaven waits for you
Carry on my wayward son
For there'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
And it seems like he is singing this to the Winchesters. And more importantly, Team Free Will and all the hunters.
