Right, let's get this fucking mess over with.

I don't like BTS.

Before the toxic ARMY'S come for me and tell me to kill myself, let me fucking speak. There's a couple of points I want to talk about.

1) The Fandom

Now, I was introduced to Bangtan in 2015, when the fanbase was still relatively small. They had just released 'I NEED U' and a couple of my friends at the time convinced me to listen to them. That's when I listened and first became a stan of them.

At the time, ARMY was great and supportive of any and all opinions. You don't find Jungkook that hot but like his voice? That's cool, you're buying their voices, not their faces. You love Namjoon? OH MY GOD, SAME, WE SHOULD SOO BE FRIENDS. That sort of goodness.

However, as the times changed so did the fan base. It was around the 'Blood, Sweat & Tears' era when BTS really took off internationally. But this was also when a small group of ARMY'S that were toxic, became bigger... And bigger... And bigger.

It's not all ARMY'S, that's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is it's the people who disrespect other Kpop groups because "they copy BTS" or comparing BTS to a  completely different group and thinking BTS are superior in everything. It's those people that fucking shat on my parade.

I couldn't stand the fighting that the toxic ARMY caused because I'm multifandom and my favourite fandoms at the time were fighting, Exo and BTS.

You can't say anything bad about BTS without getting told to kill yourself or getting death threats by the toxic ARMY these days. You don't really like Nmajoon's solo stuff? WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE, YOU FAKE STAN? NAMJOON IS AMAZING AND BETTER THAN YOU BY A LANDSLIDE. Jin can't sing? WHAT THE FUCK MAN? HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT ABOUT MY BIAS, HE'S AN AMAZING SINGER WHO I'M GONNA MARRY ONE DAY. That sort of bullshit.

There was a news story about how ARMY'S were attacking Shawols, SHINee fans, because they didn't agree with what they were saying. That's disgusting. And it's not all of you, I know that it's not. If only the nice ARMY'S actually spoke out or told them off. Here's the link: https://www.allkpop.com/article/2019/12/trigger-warning-shawols-tell-armys-not-to-use-youdidwelltaehyung-armys-get-agressive

The newer ARMY'S don't realise that there are more kpop groups than just BTS. What about Exo, Astro, SF9, Day6, Cross gene, Mamamoo, Red Velvet, SUNMI, Hyuna, and Rania??? Don't they deserve to be noticed just the same as BTS???

2) The change in style for BTS and music change

I'm just gonna say. BANGTAN AREN'T BTS AND BTS ISN'T BEYOND THE SCENE AND THEY NEVER WILL. THEY JUST CHANGED THEIR NAME BECAUSE THEY WERE GETTING POPULAR AND THEIR OLD NAME WASN'T COOL!!!

Back in the good old days, when they were Bangtan, they were relatable. They weren't big enough to cause severe damage if they did something wrong or say something uncensored. When they made a mistake, we all laughed it off, It wasn't taken seriously.

But now, they aren't Bangtan anymore, they're BTS. They are still real fun, real funky, real smooth, but we can't relate to them anymore. If they make a mistake, everyone sees it. It's no longer just a small group that knows about, it's most of the world. I miss the connection that fans had with BTS when they were smaller.

BTS changed their music style which appealed to people because it was bluntly saying the social inequalities in the world; to a more western style which has soften the blow on the message and made it more accessible to the western world.

It's not that they don't talk about social inequalities or darker themes anymore, it's the bluntness of the message that's changed. An example is 'No more dream' from 2013 which is literally all about having a dream and encouraging others to follow their dreams and to not just follow the crowd. There's also the themes of bullying, love, how adults see teens, and youth.

Their concepts these days are still serious topics but it's covered up with cuteness and flashiness of their bodies.

I absolutely love the concept of Love Yourself because it's a great concept and encouraging people to look inwards and start to love themselves. I love the message that they've got these days with 'Idol', 'Boy in Love' and 'Fake Love' all promoting self love and the need to not have a relationship to love yourself.

The only problem is that their newer music doesn't appeal to me, it was after 'Not Today' that I stopped following them. It just sounds like the same poppy stuff that's shat out by every other star in the industry.

To conclude, there's nothing unique about their style anymore, besides from it being Korean. Even if their lyrics are meaningful, it makes no difference if there's nothing that draws people in.

3) They're overrated for stuff they shouldn't be overrated for

So for example "they came from such a small company"doesn't need to be said every time someone says why they don't like BTS as an answer. Do you get what I mean??? Like if you say something along the lines of "Ye, I'm not the hugest fan of BTS because they aren't that different", then they'd answer with "But BTS came from a REALLY really SMALL company and have made themselves in the Industry."

Every time I have a conversation with an ARMY, that is their main argument. That's what they keep coming back to and make an emphasis on but it's not even that big a thing. Every company out there started out small, started with nothing and they made themselves into what they are today.

ARMY'S put emphasis on how unique BTS are but as I've already said, they really aren't that different.

However...

I know that BTS isn't the only Fandom that has toxic members. Every Fandom does, nothing will stop that. But ARMY'S gained the most attention because only toxic ARMY'S seem to make a big deal outta shit.

Older ARMY'S put up a lot of shit because of the hate train on BTS, it's their job to be there for them and support BTS. And they do, toxic ARMY'S have a violent way of supporting BTS, by putting others down to raise BTS up.

To be honest, I don't have a problem with the BTS members, I actually really like all of them because they act like great guys and are respectful. But just cause I like them doesn't mean I like what they create. If I listen to BTS, it's their older stuff. Before 'Blood, Sweat and Tears' cause to me, that was their golden era. I've tried listening to their new stuff but I mostly turn the sound off and watch the aesthetic.

That's my rant over with. I hope you've enjoyed reading this whole thing and I didn't bore you too much.
