It was Thursday.

You watched as your students slept soundly on their mats. One of the perks of being a kindergarten teacher is having the opportunities to rest during your students' nap time. Finally, the room was quiet after four hours of laughing and screaming in the room.

That day, you were teaching them how to write the alphabet. A few were excelling while the others still have a bit of a long way to go. Tiptoeing across the room, you collected the toys that the children have thrown around during the day and placed them in the toy basket. Once done, you checked the children if they were sleeping alright and fixed their blankets when you think they are not being covered enough. Finally, you let yourself relax and laid down on the soft floor and waited for everyone's parents to arrive. One parent was already waiting outside your window. But you noticed that he was gone now. You shrugged and assumed he went somewhere else to wait for the bell to ring. Slowly, you felt sleepiness starting to catch up to you. You closed your eyes, allowing sleep to come and get you.

"Huh. So you slack off sometimes too."

You flinched at the sudden noise. On instinct, you sat up and pressed a finger to your lips. You realized that it was Mr. Lovino outside the door, leaning against the doorpost and looking at you with a bored face.

"Lo—" you cleared your throat "Mr. Lovino. How long have you been there?

"Long enough to see you clean up the place like the maid you're supposed to be."

You flinched, offended.

"What brings you here?" You asked in a quiet voice, trying not to wake the children up and trying to keep your emotions on check.

"Well—"

"Shh"

His eyebrows met. "You're annoying," he said, finally lowering his voice. "Since zhat dork Francis told me to keep watch over you and my idiot sister, my life has started to get more and more boring. I swear if this goes on for another day, I will die."

You raised a brow. "And... you came here because you might find me entertaining?"

At this, Romano blushed a little, visibly annoyed. "Don't get zhe wrong ideas, woman."

This time, it was you who blushed after realizing that what you said could have meant something else. "I-I didn't mean it that way—"

"I came here because I was curious about how a petite woman like you could handle an army of screaming children. Zhat's all."

"Well," you stood up and walked towards your desk and sat on it. "As you can see, they're not screaming anymore."

Lovino chuckled. "So I see. Not bad for a small woman like you."

"Why, thank you. I mean, it can get a lot harder someti—" suddenly he grabbed you by the wrist, pulled you to the side of the desk, and pulled you down. "What in th—" he covered your mouth, cutting you off once more. This time, it was his turn to shush you.

His face was so close. You met his eyes and shrunk. His gaze on you was so intense, you thought you were staring at lasers. You felt heat rise up to your cheeks. You blinked, so did he. For a second, his eyes didn't show the anger and annoyance that they usually do. They showed something else that you couldn't describe yet. Before you could figure it out, he blinked again and it was gone.

Lovino turned his face away and fixed his eyes on the window. You followed his gaze and saw the parent that was waiting for one of your students. He was back with a corndog in hand, eating it casually. He sat on his spot on the bench, his arm casually resting on the bench's backrest while eating his food happily. There was nothing unusual at all. That is until you notice the bullet wounds on his arms, and the gun resting on his hip. You blanched. You suddenly found it hard to breathe. That man was there the whole day, only leaving when Lovino came near your room. He noticed how you were already breathing heavily.
