I see his smile, the one that greeted me all those years ago. The grief is still written on his features. I was a daughter to him, his obligation to keep safe ever since that fateful day he found me. My heart swells because I know, if my vision comes through, this will be the last time I'm able to see him.
A sadness runs over me as I see his smile vanish as Bella gives him the gift I bought what feels like years ago. "She told me before... she had already bought this in preparation, hit it in one of her spots so you wouldn't find it by accident." Bella explains as the man I see as a father recognises my handwriting spelling his name. "She wanted you to have this." Bella states with a smile as Sue lays a comforting hand on the mans shoulder.
With great care he unwraps the paper, revealing a small box to open. Inside the box is a hand carved mini statue. The man has always been so stubborn and left the family pictures where they are, partially out of sentiment.
The statue is of Bella and me. We were teenagers an we were laughing about something as we lean on one another to keep standing. It's a representation of the life I've lived ever since he took me in with Renee. I've been happy. And that's exactly why I wanted him to have it, to remind him he saved me.
Charlie... dad,
Ever since you found me and took me in, I've been grateful and happy. You gave me the father and mother I've never had. You gave me a sister. I could never explain how grateful i am for the life you, Renee and Izzy have given me. Wherever I am, either on the other side of the world or right next to you on the couch, I'll always be there like you were for me.
I love you dad.As he reads the note a sad smile forms on his face as he looks up at Bella and Edward. "You gave her the life she needed, Charlie. She loved you like you're her own father, she loved Renee as her own mother. You were her family." Edward tells him honestly as Bella gives her father an awkward hug.
After a grateful smile from Charlie and another hug for him from Ree, the somber sphere goes back to the holiday spirit. By then I've decided to leave them be, no use hanging around if I have to help prepare for the battle.
I make my way through the Forrest, collecting myself as I approach the group that is already setting up camp.
"Vanessa, join us." I hear as I approach everyone. I look to my side seeing Benjamin, Tia and Jeremy sitting on a log, talking among themselves as the wave me over. I smile as I walk over to the group. "Benji here was just telling me the story of how he met his beautiful mate here." Jeremy states as he gestures between the young couple.
"Sounds awesome... but, I still have to set up the tent for Ree." I state as I gesture to the backpack I'm carrying. "Maybe after."
I look for a good place to set up camp for the little monster, not to far from the group but not to close either. I have a feeling it will not be a silent night. Finding the perfect spot I begin to set the thing up, maybe I do cheat a little as I use my vampire speed to help me.
"You know Emmy... if you want to scare me you're gonna have to find another way than sneaking up on me. I can hear you coming." I state as I look up a tree as I hear the slight rustling of it only to see Emmett. His face falls into disappointment as he makes his way out of the tree.
"You're no fun V." He grumbles but instead of leaving it like that he picks me up, hanging me over his schouder while running of to some place. Before I can make my way out of his hold he throws me into a lake. I smirk as I'm under water, remembering I don't need to breathe. I stay under, making sure not to make sudden movements before jumping out a hugging a perplexed Emmett.
